1 trip Hogwarts Canyon - North Wash
Date: 10/09/2024
Easy and quick outing as a roadside attraction. Great if paired with using the rest area and cooking dinner. 60m rope and bring plenty of extra webbing. The final rappel I did not use the small block on a sloping ledge but added a different rappel on a thread through above.
1 trip Hog Canyons - North Wash
Date: 10/11/2023
Great camping at the dome 0.8 miles before the TH. Hog 1 and Hog 2 lots of climbing really fun and short. Looks like you could combine both in a day but would be a long outing. Stay left in the drainage to exit. Lots of climbing and is a great combination to do all 4 in a weekend with stellar camping.
1 trip Horse Play Canyon - North Wash
Date: 10/10/2023
Very physical canyon. Bring a small backpack, no rope. Easy fun and narrow with excellent camping beyond the turnoffs in either direction. Closer to Butler TH is a very sand area of the road. Suggest bringing a bike and pairing this with Upper Staircase and Butler for a great weekend outing. Again, road can be rough beyond the TH heading towards Upper Staircase.
1 trip3 trip Lucky Charms - North Wash
Date: 10/10/2023
Awesome canyon that quickly bring you away from the road. Require climbing skill or can be short roped with beginners. Perfect introduction to canyoneering and can be either downclimbed or I suggest rappelling into the canyon. Looks like 3 rappels every exposed with a 60m rope. Bring a lot of extra webbing to extend. Superior night option and teaching canyon with plenty of photo options.
1 trip3 trip Leprechaun Canyon - North Wash
Date: 06/02/2023
Soloed Left Fork which was comfortably tight. Suggestion to pack small, bring headlamp, and extra webbing to back up or replace anchors. Certainly, need to repeat and also go back to complete the Right Fork. An amazing canyon that is more of a caving experience at times.
1 trip Morocco Canyon - North Wash
Date: 06/01/2023
Visited after a flash flood and this was a entertaining short canyon using a 30-meter rope. It included multiple area of wading and swimming. Can easily be soloed. If taking others, make sure they are comfortable on steep terrain with exposure for the approach. As with all areas in the North Wash bring extra webbing to replace or back up anchors.
1 trip Shillelagh Canyon - North Wash
Date: 06/01/2023
Perfect night canyon or winter canyon. Short approach and bring extra webbing to back up rappels. Great for guiding.
1 trip Blarney Canyon - North Wash
Date: 05/31/2023
Bring extra webbing to back up anchors if needed. Easy approach and both forks are very interesting with the left fork being more desirable. This is a dry canyon and worthy of consideration for a full moon night descent in June when the moon is high. Reported that the light will shine up canyon.
1 trip3 trip Lower Eardley Canyon - San Rafael Swell
Date: 05/31/2023
New descent starting at the juniper tree noted in the description with an 18m rappel to good ledge to stash people if lowering. Short rope to next juniper tree with great pick and nice fencing to stash people. This is another 18m rapell. Then walk ledge slightly down an up canyon to great fencing and a 3rd class downclimb. Work your way up canyon along ledges till you find a sloping class 2 ledge system leading to the canyon floor. This may be more complicated than the normal descent but a worthy option. The entire approach took 2 hours with some slow moving people due to the complicated nature of the downclimb. Poor bolt in description has been replaced with a single glue in. The whole canyon could use an update with webbing. A superior canyon worth the effort.
1 trip4 trip Upper Black Dragon Wash - Central Swell
Date: 06/11/2022
A heavily traveled roadside attraction in which all obstacles are easily avoided. Would be perfect with fresh water and the want to take a dip in between traveling along the highway. Otherwise avoid if looking for an objective canyoneering day.
1 trip Upper Three Fingers Canyon - San Rafael Swell
Date: 06/11/2022
Medium approach with obvious features to assist with navigation. 30m rope used for all decents. Easy escapes if needing to bail midway through the canyon. Rope became stuck at the first major rappel (Beware).
1 trip Hyde Draw - Central Swell
Date: 06/11/2022
Approached right from camp. Rappels were straight forward but bring extra webbing to rig and reinforce. Worth a second go.
1 trip Egypt 3 Canyon - Escalante
Date: 06/11/2021
Nice non-technical canyon additional section is not worth the travel unless you are combining with Egypt 2. Not worth the repeat
1 trip Micro Death Hollow - Escalante
Date: 06/11/2021
Camping is great right next to the approach. Standard long rappel is off a tree near the edge and chose to avoid. The pothole descent was occupied by a guided party and seemed involved. We chose a fix a rappel using weird small bushes backed up by large rock and lower into the canyon. Short but sweet with a 3rd class exit requiring some navigation skills.
3 trip Upper Calf Creek Falls - Escalante
Date: 06/11/2021
Perfect way to break up the drive to the Escalante. A great rock jump into a refreshing pool. Bring water as it is a hot hike.
3 trip Little Wild Horse Canyon / Bell Canyon - San Rafael Swell
Date: 03/20/2021
Great hike for beginners.
3 trip Ding and Dang Canyons - San Rafael Swell
Date: 06/01/2020
Perfect non-technical canyon for adventurous scramblers. Rope is optional depending on the groups ability. Nice link up.
1 trip Baptist Draw - Southern Swell
Date: 06/01/2020
Long approach for a sweet canyon. Long rappel which is best completed by lowering people in the party to ensure rope is the correct length. Easy obstacles once in the canyon.
1 trip3 trip Lower Eardley Canyon - San Rafael Swell
Date: 06/01/2020
Completed the short approach. 4th class downclimb was manageable with 2 novice teenage boys. Good rappel anchors but lots of transitions.
1 trip Zero G Canyon - San Rafael Swell
Date: 06/01/2020
30m rope for final rappel. All other sections easily downclimbed. Very small pack useful. Completed in 2020, 2021, 2022
