"Again the canyon opens allowing exits The next section starts with the canyon making a hard right, and dropping These drops can be bypassed easily by climbing down the boulders on the left Continue through this slot section to where it opens
The next section is the final section of slot, and contains the swim Suit up before entering the slot, there is not much room once you enter the slot Right before the first water, most will likely need to stem 4 m 14 ft above a constriction, then back down to the canyon fl...
No one in my close canyoneering circles had done Drill Hole Canyon, except for one person that gave it a mediocre review of "it's ok" Armed with that less than glowing review, I decided to check it out one hot July day Perhaps it was the heat delirium talking, but I thought the canyon was gorgeous and a lot of fun! It is not as narrow or dramatic as its nearby neighbor Upper Red Breaks, but I think still charming The cross jointed nature of it makes for a very interes...
Three Canyon is heavily visited by river rafters floating Labyrinth Canyon by hiking up from the river Surprisingly, however, it is often overlooked by canyoneers Well suited to beginners, or those looking for a less technical canyon, Three Canyon is stinkingly beautiful and a nice easy outing The two rappels or one long one if not breaking up the rappels in the canyon are at the very beginning while the rest of the canyon consists of hiking in a deep, lush canyon Exiting the canyon requires either a bit of 56 clim...
road into the canyon is most definently a 4X4 road if you have a high ground clearance you can drive further down the river bead closer to the oil Derrick to save on some time easy and short approach the dry-fall has tons of rocks if you wish to add a rappel or you can make your way down on the left i don't know the full distance but we rappelled down it with a 200 ft rope canyon is quite easy with some pools of water that can be avoided the first largest pothole may need a partner assist to get out there may be ...
Ah, on my first trip through Micro Death Hollow in about 2005, the big first rappel is what left a lasting impression on me Re-visiting the canyon in 2015 left me surprised at how much action and fun is packed in such a short section of canyon This is a canyon with a little bit of everything You start the day with a mellow approach to a stunning 84 m rappel down a water worn groove into the belly of the monster This is followed by a keeper pothole and some sinuous and tight narrows Though not as tight as Egypt 3, S...
#conditions 5/8/2025 9 hours car to car, fairly leisurely but lost time trying to find the correct exit Road is good Sections 1 and 2 are very physical chimneying and shimmying Lots of standing water in section 2; mostly foot to shin height, with 2 hip-deep wades Section 3 was physically easy but mentally tough I'm a 36" chest 40" hips woman, and had to breathe out on a handful of foot-long sections in order to squeeze thru, luckily with space immediately after that to breathe normally Exit notes were not clear and...
Upper Greasewood is a great little canyon, in an easy to access, yet remote feeling part of the Swell Its short nature makes it a good beginner canyon with competent leadership The canyon is not a slot, but more of a V-shaped canyon with many possible exits along the way This canyon is like Upper Three, but without the potholes The canyon is memorable to me, because of the large number of wild burro tracks we found in between rappels The locals were clearly trying to find what during the hot summer months! The cany...
Ah, Sandthrax! What do you write as an introduction to a canyon that needs no introduction Well, first off, a little about the history of the canyon Steve Allen descended it back in the day, calling it Dog Gone Then, in 2001, an ill-fated group Shane Burrows, Hank Moon, and Chris Raver tried to descend the canyon They were stopped by the climbing crux, spent the night engineering a route out the side using bolts and free climbing, and reached the rim just about the time Search and Rescue were going to reach them Th...
For a canyon named Don't Do It! DDII have done it far too many times! When I was working up to Sandthrax, DDI Canyon was one I did several times over a year or so to gain some confidence in X-Rated canyons The canyon, at least to my eyes, isn't particularly pretty I do, however, find the climbing fun, engaging, and hard enough to challenge, but not hard enough to feel desperate Why the name "Don't Do It" I am not sure of the history beyond the lore Steve Allen named it after his descent My suspicion is the name com...
Climbing in Arches National Park doesn't get much easier than this! A stone's throw from the much more popular Owl Rock, Bullwinkle Tower is fun, more moderate route that doesn't seem to get the love I think it deserves The climbing is easy, the views excellent, and the outing short What is not to love I recommend Bullwinkle Tower as a good first tower in Arches before tackling the harder/longer Owl Rock nearby
