3/9/24 - First time in Lower Eardley and I enjoyed it at lot! 45 hours for the shortcut route with a fit group of four 55 degrees outside, snowed their 3 days earlier but it was mostly melted and no ice anywhere in the canyon, that said my watch read the water temperature at 41 degrees, but I imagine it was lower than that since I kept my hand above water most of the time It was as cold as it can get without their being ice We all wore 4/3 suites and were ok, but our extremities were VERY cold by the bottomOne comm...
Bow and Arrow Canyon is a great bang for your buck! You get 4 rappels in a half-day hike. All rappels have anchors that are easy to set up. No dead man's anchors required.Rap1: ~14 ft; natural anchor around a live tree; webbing was already in place. There is an option to down climb this instead of rappelling, but it's a good warmup to your second rappel.Rap2: ~120ft; two bolted anchors with webbing in place. We also set up a top belay anchored into a live tree about 30 ft back and a rock about...
Spectacular beginning!! It looks similar to Boundary canyon's start It goes from a flat forrest to a 300' deep canyon in an instant! The first rappel was a bit more intense for all of our group than anticipated We did a single strand rappel with a 100 meter rope and after a while your hands get pretty tired and the gear gets hot Having heavy gear for the 10+ hour expedition makes it intense My suggestion is to have the first person go without any extra weight so they can easily get to the bottom and then fireman's ...
Mostly dry A few waist-deep places or less Wetsuits on 60-degree day were good Experienced group of 4 though first time in Squeeze; Factory Butte; 10 hours car to car Road in really great shape Seriously Whoever grades that road needs to teach classes to everyone else Canyon went on and on, in a good way Amazing place Felt like more raps after crux than before it Pothole section right after 2-stage rap had a dead mountain lion in the deepest one Nasty, nasty Mostly decayed and old but still, ugh, super-smelly Faste...
Great canyon! the climbers exit is actually super mellow if you find the right oneon my first run through this canyon in Oct 2021 I tried the climbers exit that was clearly cairned and bolted and it made no sense at all Spent hours wandering, down climbing, traversing nothing, and then taking some sketchy exit that clearly was wrong Just recently ran through the canyon again with 3 non climbers and me leading the party They all had no issues taking the climbers exit but only because I avoided the way I originally w...
#conditions Rattlesnake on first downclimb after first 2 rapells We stemmed over himCanyon is not a “casual romp” like description says Took 4 of us 8 hours + shuttle time Not a beginner friendly canyon Has some tight dark spots where you need a head lamp Canyon was completely dry, but there is a pothole that is likely full during wet months Road out to robbers roost area is extremely washboarded Plan on an extra 45 minutes of driving at 5-10mph over super bumpy road Temperature was perfect at 75 degrees I wouldn’t...
We did this route last Thurs 4/19/2018 Parked just before radio tower, hiked from sign just past it The "you are here" on the sign is incorrect, so somebody fixed it with a marker, lol Followed the white paint dots until they jumped to the fin on the right - if you go that way, you miss the mini-narrows, little chimney & downclimb Both sets of three bolt anchors above the Chamber are in good condition and use chain rather than webbing The set right down canyon have spinning bolt hangers, but the bolts themsel...
Two of us enjoyed this canyon on October 15 We were prepared with prusik gear to ascend, but realized it would be a big deal to get over the lip with our weight on the rope and slight overhang, so we skipped the advanced section and the last rap 10m, down canyon Need to practice ascending before tackling these After the bypass, we walked back up canyon and saw that an anchor was in place at the second rap; maybe next time Super fun canyon The narrows are tight- had to turn sideways Water in several places, knee ...
SamT I wouldif you want to do Full Imlay then yeahget dropped off at Lava Point , hike the 2-3 miles flat to the Imlay headwall impressive ! and do the entire canyon There are linked rappels in the entrance series so pay attn and bring proper length ropes and # ropes for your party size I'd aim to drop in just at daylight--6:30amand you should reach the crossroads where sneak route enters by noon Then you should be able to do the lower canyon and exit into the narrows as daylight fadesand in time to hike back down...
Quite possibly the canyoneering capital in the US, Zion offers canyoneering, climbing, and hiking among towering sandstone walls. The park itself is a destination, but within a short distance of the park are many additional wonders to be visited. Hiking, road side attractions, and many big adventures make this a fun place for everyone.
