Circle of Friends Pictograph - Escalante

This pictograph is referred to as the Circle of Friends pictograph by many today, though locals and old timers often refer to it as The Family Circle. It is one of the more unique pictographs I have seen with both striking colors, but also a striking and unique design. There is apparently a remarkably similar panel in California that some suspect was painted by the same artist.

The artists true intentions for the design will never be known, and I have read many different accounts of the “meaning” of the pictograph. Often these descriptions of its meaning and presented with assuredness and authority. Like many great artworks, maybe the meaning is best left to the interpretation of the viewer. Whatever its intended meaning was, or you think it is, the panel is a striking piece of artwork.
