Immortalized by a story of its descent in Steve Allen's Canyoneering 2 book, Mindbender lives up to its name. In Allen's book, he talks of the final rappel, nearly a 150 feet, with the only anchor available being a deadman. Nowadays most canyoneers are familiar with deadman anchors, and you see them fairly often in different canyons, but the final 150-foot rappel in Mindbender is still a big deal for many. It is a big, airy rappel to do off a pile of buried rocks! It has also been the scene of several bolts and bolt pullings in the past. If you find bolts at the final rappel, it is perfectly acceptable to build a deadman and go off the deadman instead, but please don't pull existing bolts.
Aside for the big finale, Mindbender offers a good, relatively short canyon. It is quite a bit shorter than its neighbor Not Mindbender. The exit requires a bit of unprotected 5.5 climbing, so is suited for groups with a climber or advanced canyoneer capable of leading this obstacle.
