Ogden Mystery Glyphs
Ogden Mystery Glyphs

In the foothills above Ogden lies a bit of a mystery. Carved into a boulder are a series of symbols that appear to be hieroglyphics. The panel of rock is said to have been first found by settlers in the late 1800’s. The mystery glyph boulder is one of over 20 that have been found in the western United States in Colorado, Utah, California, Nevada, Arizona, and Idaho.

Speculation of the panels origin and meaning abound. Some believe the panels pre-date man; some believe they are the work of the Knights Templar to serve as a roadmap to buried treasure; some believe miners carved them in the 1850’s as a joke; some believe they are nothing more than a modern hoax.

The glyphs are Egyptian like, but so far have not been translated consistently by those researching them. Though the meaning and origin is not known, the glyphs make a short interesting outing, and good discussion starter for a hiking group! These glyphs are similar to the Chalk Creek Hieroglyphs near Fillmore.
