We did this hike on 4/10/19 when we got rain/ snowed out of doing big spring canyon Well worth the effort It was super cool to see and a very nice leisurely hike Took us 4 hours car to car which included hanging at the grand gallery awhile We were the only ones that went that day which was pretty cool to be on a hike that is somewhat touristy without a lot of people
We did the West Fork on 11/8/22 It was super fun No water in the canyon and not much mud on the hike out All anchors and webbing were in good shape R2 was set up as a handline which worked fine I logged the road to the trailhead at 08 miles from highway 24 versus 15 miles listed in the beta R1 and R2 are rock anchors, R3-5 are bolted
#conditions Lots of waist to chest deep puddles right now KPH is still super easy, about 7 feet between sand and the lip You can pull it off yourself with a bit of effort or very easy to partner assist Overall not our favorite canyon, without the real KPH it has no significant obstacles, a very short technical section, and the old nasty rope/bolts kind of detract
Our family did AS 10/27/19 and all the anchors are in solid shape Great raps and super fun deep narrows Lunch at the overlook was awesome and the hike out has great views Another group was rappelling in from a side arm canyon of AS just before that last rappel Any beta would be appreciated It looked really interesting from the exit hike
Ran 4/14 Perfect trip for beginners, families and apparently large guided trips Everything was in great shape No issues save the crowds Fortunately there are multiple raps stations or alternative ways around the human log jams If you back up behind large groups, look around for options and maybe ask the guides for suggestions They are usually super cool
#conditions ran heaps today, June 7th 9 hrs car to car Canyon was super fun and fast, very full No pothole escape gear/tactics needed Lost about 15 hours at the final rappel sequence, struggled to find the rappel, went too high above canyon Also had a big rope tangle Incredible day!! 10/10 with Ben Bigwood
2 of us did the middle fork on 2192022 Bone dry, super tight Lots of stemming and grinding through Hiked up from the Sandthrax camp Webbing on the few raps was in good shape Camp to camp was just under 5 hours for us and we took a casual pace with lots of pictures and such Temps were perfect and it was an enjoyable day
#conditions Just did this Canyon today Super fun There are a couple pools but you can avoid getting in them We did two rappels Took us 3 1/2 hours with a group of 4 with 2 athletic kids We did the shorter rappel off of the left-hand side of the canyon, If you’re looking down the canyon You have to down climb some slabs to get to a huge rock boulder that has a couple of slings
5/15/2021 all anchors in great condition Ran this canyon with or beginners and they loved it This is really a phenomenal canyon for beginners to try In a short section, you get a super wide variety of quick and easy rappels and canyoneering maneuvers I’ll likely take all my novice canyoneering friends here to try out the sport
Ran this today after rain yesterday, there were a few puddles but the canyon does indeed drain out well What a superb and easy canyon We did it with a single 80m rope and could do both the first two rappels without any issues The second rappel now has two both loose bolts that are slightly coming out of the face, which seemed solid on the way down but weren't super confidence inspiring, it's probably time to replace that anchor altogether and perhaps get rid of the traverse, or put a chain there
