Comment on Peekaboo-Spooky-Brimstone Canyons - Hole In The Rock
Brimstone:
Just came back from doing several slots in Escalante and haven't had problems with snakes in the past, but when we done Brimstone, we ran into 4 rattlesnakes Two of them trapped in a small pothole, one wandering in the slot, and the fourth was in a sidewall pocket above a long water pool, and we were only in a quarter mile from the entrance I'd suggest taking a headlamp because there is a dark section which requires spanning the wall to pass, unless you're less than 6 or 7 inches thick at chest height I...

I'll take it Next time I'm in the Escalante area We did bring tiny packs, but just didn't move fast Question about that intial downclimb Is that the route on the LDC side crack by the dryfall the way in Or is there something further down canyon to scramble down
Comment on Sunglow Canyons / Trail - Bicknell
We did this as a loop up-climbing East Fork and coming down West Fork A very rewarding day Each fork on it's own is probably a bit lackluster, but together they are a 5-star day Climbing up the East Fork makes this an R rating, due to some exposure on two notable up-climbs There are 2 fairly easy up-climbs of note as well There is one where you chimney up about 10 feet and then have to get around a large chockstone When you get to the obvious big drop of about 100 feet with a large chockstone about 15 feet up and a...

If memory serves, we did the side crack I don't remember anything further down canyon
Comment on Hogwarts Canyon - North Wash
Fantastic and quick canyon I'd recommend climbing around to the right once you get to the semi-keeper and sliding down the crack its a little bit exposed for 1 move right before you get into the slot
Comment on Elephant Butte - Arches National Park
Hey, this is a canyon that can be easy to get turned around in due to the multiple false fins, scrambles, and slightly vague beta I've added some pics that might help The black streak is still there and off to the right - the first rappel is just over a small saddle following a bowl scramble and climb do not go left up a narrow crack - after summiting the left wash just before going back down the boulder scramble following the first rappel leads to the last rappel - after the last rappel use a team down climb or do...
Comment on U-Turn Canyon - Arches National Park
There is a much more interesting option for the 3rd rappel When the canyon opens up, rather than heading down to the rock with very obvious rope grooves, head left along the slickrock as far as you can Right before the far left wall LDC there is a huge boulder and a smaller boulder behind it which was being used as a backup The rappel is about 80' of vertical wall with a decent sized ledge about half way, One 200' rope was plenty After that, just go back right LDC to either the crack rappel or the freehanging one w...
Comment on High Spur Canyon - High Spur
Beautiful canyon, but I wonder if we missed the correct exit crack What we went up was a loose class 2 dirt gully that ended in something like 30-50 feet of either very loose/sketchy/exposed class 4 or more secure, but mid-class 5 stem/mantle, followed by lower angle but still very loose, sandy, sketchy class 3 ledges Felt way sketchier than the Larry exit, by comparison Curious if we missed something
Comment on Three Canyon - San Rafael Desert
Can you provide more details I have done the rappels in "the exit" canyon a few times There is no way you could hand line up either of them so I am confused by your comment The "tall crack" you described sounds like that standard exit
Comment on The Wives - Capitol Reef
Did Wife 1 today 11/18/22 with a beginner All of the anchor webbing was in acceptable shape I added an anchor on a solution arch in the Rap 2 area to make for an easier rope pull and to avoid excessive grooving on the rock Someone added an anchor about 30' past the last 66' rappel as an alternative to DCing to the bottom of the crack on the way out Not necessary for most, but nice to have for those less adept at DCing This was a fun canyon!
