#conditions Did Hog 2 on Sept 13 The road to the upper trailhead is currently in 4X4 mode due to blow sand in 2 spots We opted for the spicy downclimb on left LDC and glad we did It is much better than the rap Although, the last 10' or so of the traverse getting into the crack is pretty sketchy We protected the first ones across with a meat anchor from above and then partner assisted the last person Worked great The remaining anchors were all in good condition One additional item of note, the plunge pool in Ho...
Roads are still in good shape other than those sections of wind blown sand on the road but easy if you have some clearance Canyon was pretty much dry except for a couple small avoidable pools Some A-holes have already chopped the bolts out so now there's like 10 ugly bolt holes and NO anchor There's no decent rocks nearby to build a deadman but luckily we were able to use that pinch point up on the left wall Everything else was pretty standard in this classic Roost canyon If you're going to chop bolts at least...
5/18/2019 - Scramble up rockfall in front of Owl Rock Head to the back of canyon, turning right at the junction After scrambling up the bowl, R1 ~85 ft was moved from left-side to right-side and many rope grooves now exist there After R1 ~85 ft at canyon bottom, head up rock fall directly next to R1 to the left Head to top, and cross over crack where safe to get to R2 ~65 ft, or head to top and cross over when done visiting To get to top, find a weakness on Western-South side of the highest ledge R1 ~85 ft and R2 ...
Completed canyon on 11/03/16 with group of 5 270' rappel is kinda awkward as you're stuck in a crack for a good portion of it I feel like the 1st rap on Cassidy Canyon is way more intimidating Fun canyon but the good stuff is short Probably won't do this one again Rebuilt the anchor on the last rappel One of our group forgot to pull the knot out of the end of our rope before pulling it It was getting dark and it was an old rope so i didn't feel like ascending the rope and trusting the knot against the rapide...
Thanks, Ryan, great spot For those who don't like the crack, a short but easy approach: At about mile 30, keep on straight down to the draw instead of up left to the cliff trailhead Pull over at the draw or when the road gets too rough, then hike left / east down the draw to the panels -- also only a 5-10 minute hike
Beautiful canyon, but I wonder if we missed the correct exit crack What we went up was a loose class 2 dirt gully that ended in something like 30-50 feet of either very loose/sketchy/exposed class 4 or more secure, but mid-class 5 stem/mantle, followed by lower angle but still very loose, sandy, sketchy class 3 ledges Felt way sketchier than the Larry exit, by comparison Curious if we missed something
This was an awesome day in every kind of way Great 56 scramble ascent, squeeze, chimney, slab and crimpy climbs, challenging route finding and a couple fun rappels had to climb back up one as my rope got stuck in a crack when I was pulling it Awesome and challenging day Make sure you are a comfortable scrambler/climber or this will be a scary day as there is a fair amount of exposure
#conditions South Fork, 5/26/24 Large party, 6 adults, 2 seven year olds The descent to the anchors for the 2 south raps was fine, we just took it slowly Solid anchors for both of the raps, webbing in place was in good shape The narrow section of the slot was very fun, especially with the kids, who loved it A few spots with water that were easy to stem over, great conditions on the hole Final rap is off of two bushes growing out of a crack, not the most bomber, but between the two it felt stable Highly recom...
Hey, this is a canyon that can be easy to get turned around in due to the multiple false fins, scrambles, and slightly vague beta I've added some pics that might help The black streak is still there and off to the right - the first rappel is just over a small saddle following a bowl scramble and climb do not go left up a narrow crack - after summiting the left wash just before going back down the boulder scramble following the first rappel leads to the last rappel - after the last rappel use a team down climb or do...
Ran this canyon on 18th June 2021:"It's short nature makes it a good beginner canyon" - Yeah, right! It took us 95 hours with a couple of beginners, and 1 inexperienced guide me Everyone had an epic good time nevertheless :Some of the earlier pools in the guide above were not present We did rappel the 5m "downclimb" crack that is after the second rappel We did not even consider down climbing it, perhaps only because we saw an anchor I swear we found at least 1 additional rappel than mentioned in the guide, but this...
