Lion's Mouth Cave Large Panel Area

Lion's Mouth Cave Large Panel Area

Lion's Mouth Cave, located west of Cedar City, Utah, is a shallow sandstone alcove renowned for its pictographs. The cave's name derives from the rock formation's resemblance to a lion's open mouth. This short, family-friendly hike visits one of the best pictograph panels in the area. The back wall of the alcove has numerous pictographs, unique and different from other styles I have seen in the area. It is a must-do for rock art enthusiasts if in the area.

Note: It should go without saying, but don't touch the rock art or camp/have camp fires in the alcove. On my visit, there was evidence of a recent campfire in the alcove, all well as a pile of wood for another fire. PLEASE DON'T HAVE FIRES HERE! It damages the rock art.
