As of Memorial Day no wet suits needed, very little water, only calf deep Anchors are getting a bit old and abraded, bring some webbing as these will soon need replacing If you have some new folks be aware that they may feel exposed climbing the steep slick-rock after the exit crack
Had a great trip taking the family through On the last rappel, I think the anchor has been moved farther away from crack I've seen in some photos, as we needed 180 feet of rope to get down and 220 would have been better to avoid getting off at an awkward angle on a ledge Just read the comment by mesa_rn--should have checked that out before!
Does anyone know if there is an exit crack between the first chute and the corkscrew
huh  in the crack right in the watercourse  i ran it yesterday and looked around and couldn't find it, but maybe i just missed it
unless you get there at the crack of dawn, I'd have to call this hike a disaster tried once in 2016, was overtaken by a group of chattering girl scouts, turned back went earlier just now in 2017, the trail was crowded with struggling people who really had no business being on an unmaintained trail, leading to multiple traffic jams this trail has been overpromoted to people who'd probably be more comfortable wading the first quarter mile of the narrows or walking the riverside path at Zion - I'm sure it's very prett...
After the wide crack the first 'piece' is a bolt without the hanger or head The head was replaced by climbing tape Also, to make matters worse it flexed under body weight Not sure this was always the caseI used a nut but if you pull on the wire in the wrong direction plan on taking a really bad fall Additionally, if you are under 5'10" I would say plan on bringing a stick clip for this section I was top stepping on my ladders and barely reached the bolt above This was pretty scary due to the sketchy piece! After t...
Thanks, Ryan, great spot For those who don't like the crack, a short but easy approach: At about mile 30, keep on straight down to the draw instead of up left to the cliff trailhead Pull over at the draw or when the road gets too rough, then hike left / east down the draw to the panels -- also only a 5-10 minute hike
As of 4/27/18 water was knee deep, but for the most part dry I believe on the third rap the webbing had started to get a bit worn out We deemed it good, but it probably doesn't have a ton of uses left Be sure to check it As a group of 6 we didn't do the last two raps hoping to save some time, but in retrospect it was probably sixes In total agreement with MTNGRLMB on the crack climb I wouldn't recommend going without a car shuttle
WARNING about Kelsey exit: it's easy to miss the crack to the right looking up that branches off from the rocky, loose gully You should leave the gully BEFORE getting to the top There's an extra-sandy patch and lots of cairns pointing there We thought we were following the cairns but didn't go all the way out It made for a consequential, exposed climb up to the top on 5/16
Thanks! Yes, we suspected this once we exited Do you happen to know if it's a different crack out of the same gully system, or a different gully system altogether
