The ruins of Lower Mule Canyon
The ruins of Lower Mule Canyon

Mule Canyon is most well-known for the House of Fire Ruin in its South Fork. These ruins are near the lower end of Mule Canyon, not far from where it meets Comb Wash. Though not as dramatic as House of Fire, these ruins are very accessible and have a lot of bang for their buck given the short hike needed to see them. I visited as an evening stroll while heading back to Highway 95 after a day out and thought it was the perfect way to end the day.

Camping/Access Note: Those with a short, true high clearance 4-wheel drive can drive very close to the ruins and make the hike less than 3/4 of a mile roundtrip. Most, however, will want to stop short of the most difficult section of road. This makes the hike a little over a mile roundtrip. Those with even 2WD vehicles should be able to make it to the recommended trailhead in most conditions. Near the recommended parking spot are a handful of excellent campsites that see a lot of use.
