Many of my friends have commented to me over the years that Pinnacle #1 was one of their favorite hikes in the Swell. There is a good reason for this, the hike gives an adventurous "top of a desert tower" feel, yet is accessible to most. The hike, with an elevation gain of around 1000', is not for the out of shape, but most will enjoy the meandering route and views. To keep the route interesting, the final section involves two short patches of climbing. These are both 4th class, or very low 5th class, but add just the right amount of spice. A short rope may be prudent for beginners and dogs. Don't let the minor difficulties to deter you from attempting such a great route!

Although the pictures show a winter ascent, this is a route best done in the spring or fall when temperatures are moderate. Snow greatly adds to the difficulty.
