The family at the hot springs

The family at the hot springs

Though small, I thought Baker Hot Springs was one of the more enjoyable hot springs I have visited. The pools are located in a desolate area about 40 minutes north of Delta.. The desolation, for me anyway, adds to the appeal.

The spring source bubbles to the surface at 180 degrees Fahrenheit. A small trench carries the water a few hundred feet to a series of 3 small concrete pools. The temperature in the pools can be adjusted by varying how much hot water flows into the pool on one side and how much cool water flows in from different springs on the other side.

On our visit, the first pool was lukewarm, the second hotter, and the third was my personal favorite, hot enough to need to enter slowly and thoughtfully, but not too hot to soak in for quite a while!

Note: There was a fair bit of trash when we visited. Please bring a garbage bag and pick up after yourself and others.

Getting There

From downtown Delta, UT, head west on Main Street. Main Street goes over a bridge, turn right on 1000 W, not far after crossing the bridge.

Follow 1000 W for 1.6 miles. It curves left and becomes 1500 N. Turn right onto Jones Road at 1.8 miles from Main Street, or 0.2 miles after it becomes 1500 N.

Follow Jones Road for 9 miles to a T intersection at the power plant. Go left here for 11 miles to the junction with Baker Hot Springs Road on the right. The road turns to dirt, but is well graded and should be passable for all vehicles. Follow the excellent dirt road 7.2 miles to the hot springs on the right.

Note: At about 6.6 miles there are several trailers and no trespassing signs on the right side of the road. Baker Hot Springs are just after the private property ends.

Route

The pools are a short distance off the main dirt road. There is good primitive camping at the pools as well.
