It seems the ownership of the land used to access Sand Wash has changed and it is now gated and signed no trespassing. In the comments, some have suggested alternative routes that avoid private land, but I have not tried them. Beta left below in case access opens again, but for now, you will need to find an alternate approach to avoid crossing private land.
If it weren't for the difficult access, Red Cave would be immensely popular. It is still popular as is, but the access deters many. The hike can be done as a loop, or each fork explored individually from the bottom. The loop hike can be brutally hot in the summer, but exploring up the bottom of each fork and returning is very do-able year around, and family friendly.
