Observation Point & Middle Echo Loop

Observation Point & Middle Echo Loop: (2 People) We decided to drop our packs at the junction of Observation Point trail and the East Rim offshoot to dash up to the point and then continue down to to the canyon entrance. The cairns area in good shape along the trail and easily lead directly to the drainage entrance to the canyon. The first rappel was dry and direct, but the pull can be tricky; we unstuck the rope and used a meat anchor to ensure the pull was successful. Beginning with rappel 3 the potholes are swim or chest deep water (pretty nasty). The pothole which can be a keeper had a really helpful foot/hand line in place as of 8/25/17. After the rappels most of the down climbs were straight forward. Be careful on the down climb with the tree and webbing loop near the end; my harness got caught and it turned into an assisted down climb. Overall it was a fantastic canyon, cold water, and the fixed gear was in decent shape. - Would run again
