Descended MMI on 4/20/2016 The last mandatory 100' rappel we could not pull our ropes through the rappel ring at the anchor after we were done rappelling due to the ropes getting stuck in the very deeply worn rope grooves at the edge of the rappel I had to ascend all the way up to free the ropes, which took considerable effort and reposition the rappel as far on the rappeler's left you could go to not have the ropes get wedged in the grooves once again There seems to be a need for bolts to the rappeler's left to el...
Great canyon, but i think we need to add a few waypoints to the GPS coordinates to the exit And people stop building random rock cairns! they are everywhere out there after the moki steps we invented our own exit which was a lot easier we went out near the south fork trail head you can stay higher longer The last rappel for us was 115' i gps'd it and marked it on the rope if you try and fold a 200' rope without blocking up top you can get yourself into trouble unless those rocks at the bottom decided to move up the...

Tucked just south of the Utah State line, Little Black Mountain is a treasure of hundreds of petroglyphs nestled against the base of the basalt and sandstone peak The peak sits on a boundary To the north, butting up against the Utah/Arizona border is the bustling and expanding city of St George To the south is the vast mostly undeveloped desert of the Arizona Strip It is a bit striking to have a large concentration of rock art so close to a thriving and growing city BLM has created a trailhead with pit toilets, a p...
03/30/2025 Solo Beautiful canyon, but understand that it is much more hike than canyoneering Having the GPX track from this site was extremely helpful It's a lot of hike for 1 rappel though But the hike is gorgeous and I thought it was worth it, but I enjoy hiking as much as canyoneering And the rap is really something Airy, cathedral-like feel, fun The downclimbs were easy, except for the final one right before the rap Made me a little nervous to be honest since I was solo Rigged a handline from my backpack just ...
One star outing that is worth doing if you've done everything else in the Moab area But hard to recommend due to the overall low quality and the very serious risks - Moki Steps #1: 20ft, 52, chill - The section that used to have a tree: 15ft, 59 boulder problem with a 40+ ft fall, R/X This section has a fixed pin that I monoed, but it was still hard If you brought a single aid ladder and clipped the pin, this section could probably be 55 but still R/X This section is no joke - Moki Steps #2: 40 feet, 53, free solo ...
A friend and I did this canyon yesterday and I feel that the difficulty of the Moki exit is a bit understated The climbing isn't that difficult though it may very well rate higher than 55 in my opinion Aside from difficulty one also has to factor in a certain level of fatigue from spending a long day in the canyon and the amount of exposure on the climb I was able to free solo the exit and then belay my friend up but I seriously have to wonder how someone with little climbing experience would have made it I feel th...
Did this one 9/18/2020 I believe this canyon would be at its funnest after some rain The canyon was mostly dry The keeper had 6 inches of water in it along with a couple of birds barely hanging onto life We were going to try and free them from the pit, but when we descended into it they had already died Our efforts to overcome the obstacle killed them - missed potshots and ropesI first attempted to throw potshots without climbing to higher ground but couldn’t make the distance- bad angles I climbed to higher ground...
Did Angel Slot on 3/25/23 There had been so much rain and snow from the crazy winter, but there were only two small pools the entire route and both were easily avoidable so we stayed dry There were 4 anchors and a bonus 5th I'll explain shortly so I'm not sure why it only says there are 3 raps My opinionR1 and R2 were as described I would say that R3 is the 33 ft but immediately after there was another what I would call R4 that I would guess was around 50 to 60 ft However, it matched the description of the R3 in th...
ATTENTION!!!! Please avoid entering Red Breaks from the south, marked as Exit on the map
There are a pair of Owls nesting on ground level, these owls are right in the path and there is no way to pass them without disturbing or destroying their nesting site
We encountered them on 05/11/16 and from what we could hear, the chicks are very small Given the timeline needed to allow the chicks to grow undisturbed, this south canyon entrance should be avoided for the next 9-12 weeks
The rangers have been notified and...
