I did an out-and-back from Cliff Dweller Flats on a Saturday in mid March High of 65 and a perfect time of year to be there; the canyon stayed shaded all morning and even some of the midday and early afternoon A few patches of snow but hardly any moisture to be found, no microspikes needed I clocked 110 miles from the parking area, 90 of which was in the canyon itself I ended up coming up and out of the canyon a different way than I went in, but both near what is suggested on the map for an entry point; neither wer...
Made it through the canyon today! Here is some beta in addition to the route description As the description eludes to, the only 4th class scrambling is from the ground to the first cliff band From then on, you are more or less just hiking until the start of the canyon I spent a while looking for webbing for the first rappel until I realized there was none I used a retrievable anchor on the tree to the right for the first rappel, so there still is no webbing Also used a retrievable anchor on the tree to the left for...
Birch was lovely today, cool fall temps and bone dry Used one 61m rope and brought webbing in case we needed to extend it, though we did not We got a late start around 4pm in attempt to avoid the crowds, which worked super well though I wouldn’t recommend anyone else to do that for safety reasons Didn’t run into anyone — partner and I ran the canyon from car to the last rappel in 2 hours, took our time and did some technical practice and rigging drills We did not have a shuttle vehicle and decided to take the wild ...
10/24/23-- we were able to score permits via the calendar reservations one month in advance so decided to extend our trip to Zion in order to hit the Subway By far our favorite canyoneering adventure to date Other notable canyons we have done are Pine Creek, Keyhole, Cassidy Arch and Hogwarts We agree with those that say route finding can be difficult, very helpful to have an interactive map Temps were relatively warm, upper 70's, for a fall day but we were all glad to have wet suits and neoprene socks One member o...
TRIP REPORT: First time Canyoneering Zion! The week before, rain had filled up most of the canyon The Ranger that gave us the Wilderness Permit warned us about Cyanobacteria The pools were so deep in some places that we all got dunked under the surface Wore a 3:2 Full Wetsuit never felt cold & hiked the whole route in Deep See Booties this helped navigate the Creek to the Exit We carried 3 ropes with us 120’, 200’, 200’ Probably only take a 120’ & 200’ next time Our group of 4 finished the canyon from the TH parkin...
This area has wilderness signs posted The spur road taking you down to the “trailhead” is no longer accessible by vehicle Adds a mile or so to the route each way Finding the entrance canyon was challenging We hiked a couple miles out of the way using this description The topography is very confusing and all looks the same Wild burro trails crisscross everywhere Just hike to the gps waypoints Once we found the canyon it was super scenic and tons of fun! Lots of very cold and stinky black water We were able to avoid ...
Did the canyon 10/9/2023 We rappeled the first drop it's appears to be a spooky downclimb from the top, from the bottom, it definitely looks do-able as a downclimb, but for the highly skilled We backed up the webbing from the pine tree as it appeared not new Pull was clean though as it is a very short drop You could also choose from several other trees along the canyon rim that would make the drop a little longer, but definitely in the <100ft range The second rappel we opted for the tree on the down-canyon left sid...
#conditions 8/31direct route Potholes a little less than half full The bypass route skips basically the entire fun section so I would never consider doing that option We rappelled every chance we got, think it was about 10ish total rappels We also didn't skip any potholes or walk around anything which added to our time Brought 4 potshots but only needed 3, fiddlesticked one drop and sandtrapped a few I would 100% recommend bringing a w'anchor if you have one, it was AWESOME for a few of the drops Temp was 88 degree...
Love love love this website & wanted to share some recommendations and details from my trip 9/28-9/30 to hopefully help someone! My boyfriend and I did the Labyrinth Canyon float in a canoe in 3 days and 2 nights We put in at Ruby Ranch on Thursday 9/28 around 10am and took out at Mineral Bottom on Saturday 9/30 around 5pm The CFS was about 3,000 We finished the float faster than we had anticipated because the weather showed 20mph winds and potential rain on Saturday and Sunday On Thursday we were on the river for ...
Visited July 29, 2021 On my previous 2 visits I encountered the typical pools in the entry side canyon and 2-4 in the main canyon, all but one of them stem-able if you were at least 5 ft tall and creative This time there was much more water than those previous trips Once the canyon narrowed we were stemming nearly constantly to try to keep above it About halfway to the first exit there is a new rockfall/rockslide - a large pile, not a single rock It looked to have come down a few days ahead of us It is about 10 ft ...
