Sugarloaf Pass is an amazing spot! In the winter, thousands of skiers take in this view when skiing at Alta In the summer, a service road makes for relatively easy access to the pass, and a lovely hike The access road has enough switchbacks to never feel too steep The grassy slopes the road ascends are awash with wildflower blooms in mid-to-late summer It is a nice hike that is not as crowded as Cecret Secret Lake As a bonus, a semi-loop can be made by returning via the ever popular Cecret Secret Lake tucked up aga...
One of the most spectacular ridge scrambles in the Wasatch must be the Devils Castle Traverse Looming over Albion Basin, the rugged limestone ridge that makes up the Castle looks formidable The traverse is one that many Wasatch hikers aspire to do and is a classic must-do outing for those with the skills The castle is made up of 3 summits, with the middle summit being the high point Hikers without scrambling experience can usually make it to the first west summit There is little exposure to the first west summit, a...
Peruvian Gulch is said to have been named by an early miner that saw a likeness to South America’s Andes in the gulch The area is now part of Snowbird Ski resort and has been developed heavily developed to support skiing in the winter In the summers, the trail is most often used by hikers who take the tram up to Hidden Peak and hike back to the base about 4 miles If you are looking for a good workout, hiking from the base to the top of Hidden Peak or Mount Baldy is a good one without about 3,000’ feet of elevation ...
#conditions 10/15/24, party of 2 First time to the Roost Road in was super easy, just a couple short sections of sand in the last couple miles, fine if you keep moving CTC about 4 hours at a fairly leisurely pace, 2 hours for the technical section, just over 2 hours for the exit with a couple wrong turns and some wandering around Pothole rap required a boost to get out of A drop lower down where there used to be a bolt had a handline, would be a really difficult downclimb without it A lot of ‘kinda narrow’ but noth...
Yes, those are not on the site by design The park service had requested they not be published quite a few years ago to minimize impacts There was talk of closing the FF to all but ranger led tours at one point I have respected their stance and purposefully not posted info in the hopes they will continue to stay open Even with a GPS, there is some tricky route finding in there Good job finding them!
lots of water, but only got feet wet once you can skip first swimmer by rappelling/downclimbing 10 feet on a talon hook up on a ledge to the left 2nd pool was low water, so only had to get feet wet Keeper hole was half full, but super easy to stem across it Why there are bolts/ropes there, who knowsas they are completely unnecessary and trashy The last pothole made this a super classic!
Interesting, there was a road closed sign at the END of the road when I was there I tried to contact the BLM to find out if that has changed, but haven't gotten a response yet Will update if I hear it is closed Unfortunately, BLM doesn't seem to have detailed maps of the boundaries available on their website that I could find

#condtions Super fun canyon with beautiful views We were able to access the trailhead in a 2wd Rav 4 although it was pushing the limits of the car There is lots of standing water that was kind of gross but plenty warm We brought wet suits but never put them on The last section is super cool, but do not attempt it if you are not confident in your ability to stem and climb And what ever you do, do not, I repeat, DO NOT attempt to go u under the chalkstone on the last rappel I thought I could squeeze through the lowe...
Ryan, this website rocks! What an amazing resource
Does anyone know the source of water in the pothole in Chambers Spring/seep or simply direct rainwater/snowmelt runoff I'm hoping to tackle this canyon over the weekend early Feb and am very curious as to the condition that pothole may be in Not too interested in a waist-deep slog in freezing conditions, for some reason
