If you have ever driven this far out on the Hole-In-The-Rock Road, you have likely noticed Cave Point. Like Sooner Rocks and Fiftymile Spring, Cave Point is an exposed area of Entrada Sandstone. Entrada Sandstone is the layer that features prominently in Arches National Park. Its soft structure weathers into rounded domes, potholes, arches, and deep overhangs. Cave Point has obvious deep overhangs visible from the road, and it is easy to see why the area was named Cave Point.
This is not a hike I would drive all the way down the Hole-In-The-Rock road just to visit this one spot. It is also the trailhead for Fiftymile Creek and right off the road on the way to Davis Gulch and the end of the Hole-In-The-Rock road. If you are passing by and want to stretch your legs, it is a great short stop.
