#conditions Group of 6 went through on 9/29/24 Anchors were good enough for us, didn't replace anything Water easily avoided Did this as part of a west rim backpacking trip and thought it wasn't worth it Even if the canyon was easily accessible, I would never want to do it again 2-3 good rappels and about 10 nuisance rappels with awkward starts Least scenic canyon I have done in Zion Rock was super slippery even in the TX3s making downclimbs not as easy or fun Glad I did it, but definitely a one and done for me The...
Echoing the comment below, our group of 5 completed this canyon in 4 hours & 5 mins car to car on 4/7/24 First two dry falls can be avoided by walking around them to the left, and then hiking down one of the sandy hills We brought a 200 ft rope and did the rappel into the canyon in one go Stunning views on the way down! We left the rope there and came back to grab it on our way back to the car, it’s a super easy detour We only encountered one puddle that was probably about knee deep, easily avoided with stemming Fu...
#conditions We won the Angels Landing lottery so did this canyon on the way down on 7/4/2025 While this isn't the longest thing ever, it was sure unique I enjoyed it The other member of my party was super nervous the start of rap 2 as the anchor is pretty exposed The shelf for rap 3 was fun It's tight I wouldn't want more than a couple people on it CanyonDweller18 was right, there's lots of trash We spent some time cleaning much of it up We were also warned by a ranger that there's poison ivy around We di...
#conditions Completed this on 4/14/24 Lots of potholes with waist deep or less water All of it cold and nasty We wore full wetsuits and were cooking most of the time Lots of great anchor problems We used a sandtrap for the big raps & down climbed the rest There are buried rock anchors with fairly new webbing at all the drops, but we didn’t want to unbury them to inspect, so we used the sandtrap Easy route finding, super fun, very scenic canyon One pothole required a partner assist to escape 2 experienced canyoneers...
Finally did this trip It has been on my list for years Super beautiful Unlike a lot of standard canyon backpacks where you are surrounded by Navajo the whole time, the terrain is quite varied since you climb out of one canyon muddy ck then do quite a bit of traversing before dropping into chimney after passing the little susan mine Every time you turn a corner on the traverse, you are treated to view of a new Wingate monolith Also I found the colors in the sandstone, especially in the lower reaches to be di...
Canyon dry on 4/7/2023 Super fun, more engaging with down climbs than anticipated from following beginner canyons, we rated a few down climbs at beginner +! Hehe Great canyon, backed up one of the rappels First rap has awkward start, toughish rope pull, make sure your lines are sorted before the pull Also, make sure your gear is not loaded and under tension as you go over the lip, as then your gear will be caught on top of the lip It’s a good one to use anchor as a hand line and get your rappel device below the lip...
Completed on February 16th, 2020 and the 2nd rap was snow/ice free Rangers told us someone had fallen at this point while being belayed out to the anchor and was badly hurt She was able to complete the canyon and is okay There is no place to add additional protection while traversing to the anchors Belaying is a good idea, but you can still get seriously hurt from a huge swingGood news is you can check the condition of the 2nd anchor before committing See my photo for what to look for from the topSuper fun canyon -...
#conditions Ran the canyon on March 27th, 2025 We couldn't drive up to the "trailhead because of the snow and you need a high clearance vehicle There isn't a solid trail to the first rappel so be prepared for some good bushwacking The snow was melting and there was a good amount of water in the canyon The anchors were all in really good shape We got soaked on rappel 2 and 3 It was pretty much like rappelling down a waterfall All of the coordinates were accurate, and we did the entire route with a group of 3 in just...
Ran July 1, 2023 Beautiful slot, started around 430pm and got back to the car just before dark, perfect temps the whole time I am 5'10" and 175 lbs lean athletic and the thinnest spots I had to suck in momentarily to slip through but never felt like I would get stuck We brought 25ft of webbing which I used to rig a meat anchor handline while stemming after climbing up the tightest squeeze at the strenuous 6m upclimb, and that was super helpful to get the team through Brought camera and stuff in a fanny pack and eac...
Recently ran it twice testing both the short and long routes before taking a group down later next month Conditions were the same as stated in previous commentShort route: Fun and easy with some raps perfect to start teaching intermediate skills Very quick and a little technical on the way out Class 3 max so not too bad Car to car took 1 hour Just me and my wife Long route: Super great long rap with a gorgeous view from below You can opt to do one final 30-40ft rap instead hiking around it But the trek out is prett...
