10/30/21 2 people in group I am 5'10" 172# my wife is 5'7" 140# I appologize for the long report I was a little worried about this one because I could not find any recent reports The canyon started off fine But it starting going south at the 3rd to last rappel/downclimb There is a secure chockstone with some webbing and quick link see the above photo It is very narrow in getting to and setting up the anchor at that chockstone but doable My wife rappelled down and I down climbed using the long tail of the webbing a...
#conditions Ran North Fork, 09/28/2024 Lots of groups were out to do this canyon, specifically the North Fork We crossed paths with one pair at the parking lot We detoured to Hickman before proceeding and passed two more groups: one pair of males, and another larger group Our group of five moved well, despite the unseasonable warm day I had a little under 25 liters on me, and it just lasted back to the car with rationing One of the main things I'll point out is a possible alternate route up the wall on the approach...
Did this canyon again on 1-4-25 with a group of 5 Dirt road to get there is in great condition The canyon was completely dry, but had a tiny bit of snow falling for a few minutes during the second rappel 1st rappel is always an interesting start with that overhang, don't forget to use a carabiner to shorten the webbing for all but the last person Had a ton of fun downclimbing the rest of the canyon after doing the first 2 rappels The lighting was really awesome at the end of the deeper dark crack area The webbing o...
Before I was a canyoneer, I was an avid climber, and naturally have sought out canyons with stemming and downclimbing challenges to satisfy my climbing bug.  Though my wife, Olivia, thought I was a little crazy, I told her as we started canyoneering that my goal was get into X-rated canyons.  She made sure that we took it slow and put lots of canyons under our belt before giving a X-canyon a shot.  We were able to get out almost on a weekly basis this year and were able to do 50...
Completed canyon on 11/03/16 with group of 5 270' rappel is kinda awkward as you're stuck in a crack for a good portion of it I feel like the 1st rap on Cassidy Canyon is way more intimidating Fun canyon but the good stuff is short Probably won't do this one again Rebuilt the anchor on the last rappel One of our group forgot to pull the knot out of the end of our rope before pulling it It was getting dark and it was an old rope so i didn't feel like ascending the rope and trusting the knot against the rapide...
Just did this canyon We used the arch for an anchor I personally would not even call the bottom half a rappel I would call it a stem/chimney problem The rappel rope mostly tries to pull you deeper into the crack once you are in that section Didn't see bolts, but didn't look too hard either The trail out is almost spot on with the track shown on the map It is about 10 feet short of the wash coming in from the right RDC It was in good shape once out of the canyon proper I enjoyed the challenge of the bottom "rappel" ...
Did this canyon on 4/6/13 Used the short-cut access to the south prong of the canyon Found shallow water in 3 places & was able to avoid by stemming At one, we tossed in a rock to provide footing for one step across Pothole before the last rap was dry so meat-anchored in & clambered out Final rap station was rigged on right side LDC with a bolt and 11 mm rope with a link on the end hanging over the edge Also a loop installed on same rope further back from the edge On left side of canyon was a long piece of blue web...
Did the standard route a couple of days ago No wet suits when we went, and all of the anchors looked fine Our group has been in quite a few canyons, but after seeing the Moki Steps, we still thought it was a little too sketchy They don't start at the top of the rock or end at the bottom It takes longer than the beta suggests to get to the first rappel, but there was no water in the pothole when we went The next rappel is almost immediately after, with webbing wrapped around a chocked boulder The rim walk arou...
Short story: I just want to give everyone a heads up that the most obvious spot for a hand line in the exit canyon is just the first of two rappels If you use that hand line, you will also need a second hand line on the lower rappel before you go to the start Longer story: Went through this for the first time last weekend We went to the exit and saw that someone had already placed webbing at a drop in the exit canyon Figuring that was the needed hand line, we got back in the car and went through from the start We m...
We did Water Canyon on 3/13 and it was dry except for a small amount of water in the pothole on the 83' rappel We did the "Advanced Section" and found a creative anchor that after testing, felt comfortable using Definitely take Ryan's advise though, and check this before pulling the first rappel! This anchor is seeing some wear so replacing it be a good idea, but will likely require a lot of webbing maybe 50+ feet with its current setup It's a deadman with long extension and a jammed cord with small chock stones in...
