Comment on The Golden Cathedral - Escalante
4/1 I did this with a friend, we went down the fence canyon side and back up the cross country The map route on here only shows one river crossing really, when going to Neon The recent waters have widened the river and is running pretty quick with an average depth of at our knee's There ended up being like 5 or 6 crossings i recommend bringing water shoes Cross country is the ticket route though it seemed easy to navigate, one river crossing and the ups and downs are more gradual in between the two elevation drops ...
Comment on Knotted Rope Canyon - San Rafael Swell
Thanks for the feedback I added the top of the ravine and cleaned up the map a bit It seems I had a fair bit of GPS variability/errant points on my last trip in looking at the track I would not want to traverse the area and try to find the top of the ravine via headlamp on a new moon even with the point! You should have been within a very short distance of the ravine, maybe 75' if I did the math right from the nearest track point That can definitely be tough to find by headlamp though
Comment on Leprechaun Canyon - North Wash
Below AltitudeConditions: Dry, Dusty, Clear SkiesConcurred the Middle Fork of Leprechaun on 10/17/23 We had a group of three, but decided to leave one person behind on this canyon because of his size The middle Fork was a challenge, Especially with a Slot bag containing a Rope/Gear/Food/Water Although a blast this canyon tested us every step of the way! First, starting off with a couple steep narrow handlines or rappels Which ever you prefer, both rappels have anchor points However, after watching the couple go i...
Comment on Water Canyon - Hildale
Did it with a group of 4 experienced canyoneerers 10/31/2023 Took us 65 hrs with three ropes and leapfrogging the rappels Excellent canyon All raps in great condition A pretty amazing canyon in my opinion Great views throughout, route finding is easy, and the raps all straightforward We did it without wetsuits and tried to avoid water where possible Most of the raps that required a rappel into water had a alternative rap station set up that allowed you to avoid the water except rap 4 Two points of note are that the...
Comment on Dragonfly Canyon - Arches National Park
#conditions BRING BUG SPRAY! Did the canyon on 06/29/24 Group of 8, with some beginners, took us 3 and 1/2 hours Both of the anchor points and the webbing were good I would highly recommend doing the canyon when the potholes are full of water We did some cliff jumping into the first pothole After the last rappel we ended up getting eaten alive by the mosquitoes I’m not even sure bug spray would have helped with the amount of them I have about 15 bites on each arm now I would recommend hiking out of the canyon floor...
Comment on Rock Canyon - Zion South Side
Ran Rock Canyon on 10/30 with a group of 4 Drive took 2 hours from virgin to the trailhead pretty much as described by RTR Drove the sand road with an F350 Took the road according to all GPS coordinates as posted on RTR One part of the road was extremely tight for an F350 We made it, but I would not recommend doing it if driving a large F350 size truck the road seemed like it was built more for razors than trucks We took an alternate route back and it was much much better and truck friendly We did not get stuck in ...
Comment on Lisa Falls - Wasatch Front
#conditions Did the lower falls yesterday Flow seems a little high, and the face of the rock is really mossy and slick! There are three sets of anchors at the top of the last rap Two on the left, and one on the right looking up canyon There is no longer webbing on the right side, and you'll need to bring webbing to hook up to it The two on the left offer an easier line down the waterfall, as you can stay out of the water easier if you wish In our case, it was good due to the high flow and slippery rock surface The ...
Comment on Not Tierdrop Canyon - Arches National Park
Big Thank you to UWbroncos55 for his comment about all the rappels being anchored now Probably would not have done this one otherwise I added photos of the lower anchor points This route was turned into a fantastic one with the new anchors Its a great 2nd round after U Turn
Comment on Upper Telephone Canyon - Zion Main Canyon
10/26 - funny that this canyon gets so much hate Just because of the approach hike Enjoying the approach is probably a prereq, but it's a pleasant hike The highlight is a few raps in, excellent downclimb down a v slot if you have the technique, it's better than being sucked into the crack by the rope followed by a cool airy rappel, enjoy the view Bonus points if you can downclimb the slab at the bottom, but be careful or you might go for a ride Big R1 is cool too Some of the drops towards the end are easy dow...
Comment on Scratch and Sniff Canyon - Moab
4th trip on this canyon in about 5 years Atypical for Moab; not just walking and rapping There's a wide range of ratings attributed to the 3 steep approach sections My take:1st Moki steps out of the lower canyon - 20 feet on good holds and mochi steps, always three points of solid contact To me is exposed 4th class; not hard/too far to fall Can belay those less-confidentBouldering move where old Tree used to be: I've free-climbed this a couple of times after clipping the pin, and although short, it felt like t...
