Comment on Leprechaun Canyon - North Wash

10/17/2021 -- My wife and I had a blast It was pretty full after recent rains We had to stem, chimney or bridge over something like 30-40 pools It was a blast doing all that stemming without having a lot of exposure or penalty points Took a bit under six hoursNote that there are anchors set up where I think you should probably stem After the first rappel there's two short downclimbs with an anchor above them That spot also has some really bad rope grooves because the pull is really bad My wife and I did them as a d...

Comment on High Spur Canyon - High Spur

I have done this canyon probably 50 times over the years Yes, you can drop in from the top and hike down through it all the way past the last GORGEOUS section and then turn around and go back up it The biggest challenge is the dry fall about 3/4 of the way down There is usually a rope ladder there If there is not, don't do it and expect to get back up! However there are a couple exit points after the Corkscrew on the left, but it makes a long hike MUCH easier going back up the way you came, and exiting on the east ...

Comment on Cassidy Arch Canyon - Capitol Reef

Just ran through the canyon with a group of 5 of varying abilities I rigged, vs someone in our party hasn't rap'd in 4 years Took about 6 hours in total to the Grand Wash road All hardware / rap anchors looked solid The second rap anchor has a loose hanger but the bolt is fine; replaced the webbing and left a sling there as an extension for additional tether points No snow or ice that has affected the route as of 11/27/21 Great way to experience Cassidy Arch for the first time!

Comment on Hammond Canyon - Cedar Mesa

Hi all: I am planning to visit Three Fingers Ruins in Hammond Canyon first week of June I am aware of the Cream Pots TH as well as the Hammond Canyon TH as described in this excellent web site Has anyone taken the Cream Pots trail to the ruins or have any in formation about the trail Does anyone know the distance, in miles, one way to the ruins Is the distance about equal via both trails I know the distance from the Hammond Canyon TH is about 95 miles round trip with 2000 ft +-of elevation compared to about 250...

Comment on Pandora's Box - Capitol Reef

Ran Pandora's Box on 4/30/2022 with one other guy, but we ran into two other groups-one in front of us and one behind The canyon was beautiful and varied, but probably the most physically demanding canyon I have done Getting through the tight slots is exhausting and hard on any exposed skin I recommend wearing old clothes and knee and elbow pads We got ropes stuck on raps 1 and 2, but were lucky that the group behind us freed them for us Both have rope grooves that make a tricky pull We took the Meek's Mesa exit, w...

Comment on Pandora's Box - Capitol Reef

I didn't use your waypoints because the other site had more intermediate points going up to the mesa Because it was getting late in the day I wanted to make sure we were taking the most direct route possible FWIW I didn't see any cairns on our route, so maybe yours would have been better

Comment on Ferns Nipple - Capitol Reef

I took advantage of the amazing weather here and climbed the Nipple yesterday Thanks to richardwoodruff@verizonnet for restoring cairns and to Ryan, of course, for his awesome app with maps and details The last bit to the tip of the nip was a little nerve wracking I wouldn't normally be nervous about it, because the way up was straightforward enough and the holds were good, but the price of failure is high People shouldn't take the risk if they have fear of exposure; the views just below the tip are awesome too! If...

Comment on High Spur Canyon - High Spur

Planning on doing the non-technical portions of this canyon in late April without gear if the weather cooperates I did find this elsewhere on the internet though:"Shortly after dropping into the upper section of the slot we ran into a drop in the canyon that we didn’t think we would be able to climb back up The drop wasn’t very tall, maybe 6-8 feet, but it was overhanging and neither of us thought we’d be able to climb back up it, so we didn’t proceed" It sounds like this section is right at the top of the canyonIs...

Comment on Leprechaun Canyon - North Wash

Left Fork on 4/30 Dry Cairn anchors and webbing in good condition Had a couple of beginners along so we did the two optional raps before entering the canyon proper In retrospect, I would skip the first, which comes before entering the slot section and has a sharp edge, and do the second, which, like the first, can be skirted to the left It's a nice, clean rappel into a short but pretty slot section which I suppose could be called the left hand fork of the Left Hand Fork The section below the confluence with the Mid...
