Hi Ryan Great website : On your directions you say, "Head south out of Cannonville toward Kodachrome basin on the Kodachrome Basin road for 47 miles to the Skutumpah Road" I just wanted to let you know that I clocked this closer to 27 rather than 47 miles
South Fork 10/14/23 group of 2, 4 hours car to car with lots of pic stops fun canyon for sure! The exit is super easy just follow the cairns and don't deviate All the anchors looked in good shape except for the second deadman We beefed it up a bit and put a new quick link on it as the other one looked Walmart brand After the Forks meet up we kinda thought we were done but there are tons of DC's after that are super fun and made the caynon! All in all I give 35 stars compared to some of the classics in the area like...
Wow, over a 100 CFS would be pretty intense in my world! I don't believe it is dam controlled but has a huge drainage area All of the monsoons this summer are likely causing pulses Knee deep is definitely less of a measure than CFS A few inches at the crossing would be a big difference in the Box I usually camp high enough to get cell service and check the morning of as well as weather when I am doing it It can vary a lot depending on recent weather Glad you guys made it out safe A great adventure, though maybe no...
I have been a big fan of your website for a number of years I often refer friends to it when they ask about hiking or climbing in Utah However, I believe the Bowknot Bend route is missing an important bit of information: the specific directions to the lowest level With your map in hand and the gps waypoints you provide, we searched for two hours for a way down and could not find a trail, improved or otherwise, down to the overlook level I look forward to additional information -- I REALLY want to see this overl...
Hello,My wife and I are planning to do this run the first weekend of May, 2023 We have an overnight campsite permit at Fault line 1 My question: Is it safe to do right now 6400 cfs even with lifetime kayaks which are only rated for class I and class II Also, the snofloorg website says that this river is safely runnable from 1000-5000 cfs, What's up with that I just want to be sure that we will be safe with all that overnight gear on a lifetime kayak Thanks Adam
Did with a group of 6 a few days ago Lots of pools of water, most avoidable Only two were not There was a pool just under the arch, about 1 foot deep We took our shoes and socks off SUPER COLD water! The second unavoidable pool was on the last rappel of upper granary before heading over to lower The pool was only 15 ft deep, but one person went down without shoes then we set up a zip line for the rest of the group Super fun! All other pools we could hike up and around
We did this as 2 adults and 2 10 year old girls on 4/12/2023 via the shortcut approach Super fun and beautiful canyon and the approach hike is interesting too! Approach directions were right on and we used a GPX track plus the Gaia app All pools were super full - we wore 4/3 wetsuits and were fine in the upper part but the kids got pretty cold in the section with the raps with the standing around Water was not gross! We have a 2WD sprinter and the road was regraded at the 13 mark so no troubles there but we stopped...
Actually had a great time doing the rappelling route for Cool Cave! It is super short but worth it in my opinion The visitors center has the only information for it but unfortunately it's somewhat wrong so I'll post our info hereWe rented bikes from the visitors center for the approach and exit It's about 4 miles or more in and out It is $30 for 4 hours on the bikes and we did the loop and Canyon in about 5 hours they didn't seem to mind that we were late The first rap they will tell you is 115 feet but we found it...
St Thomas is a ghost town that was submerged by Lake Meade for decades Droughts in recent years have left the town exposed again This was a surprisingly interesting hike for our family The town only has foundations remaining, but the National Park Service has installed many signs along the way with information about the old town and its history I expected our 7-year-old might find the hike a little dry and boring, but we all found it quite fascinating History: St Thomas was a small settlement with a rich history da...
I was the one who posted the trip report below that included the DD float and think I'm probably only qualified to answer question # 2 We got lucky last May The Devil rose about 100 cfs a few days before our adventure My best guess was that it was flowing at 175 cfs on 5/18/23 Plenty of water and very little bottom scraping but still a very slow float I believe it took us about 45 hrs to travel 7 river miles but that was very inner tubes, no paddles I wouldn't float it below 100 cfs Give yourself lots of time The v...
