Comment on Box Canyon - Maple Canyon
Went through 7/28/2018 This was so helpful! The point of interest listed is actually just a big rock viewpoint right next to the drop-in point If you follow the three points above in order and drop into the drainage slot right next to the second point you will be on the best route The road was better than I've ever seen it, but I wouldn't count on that in the future The bolts were well placed and the webbing looks new Thanks ShaneW!
Comment on Box Canyon - Maple Canyon
A few comments, having done it yesterday 6/25/17 The road to get to the upper trail head is passable by high clearance ATV is not required There are 2-3 spots you need to be careful, but with a spot you will be fineThe bushwack by staying on the ridge is not bad, however the scramble down to the first rap is very steep You tend to slide/fallThe point of "interest" mentioned below is a big drop, go to the RDC side and there is a manageable 10' downclimb Then shortly thereafter you get to the rappel I would say it is...
Comment on The Wives - Capitol Reef
Did Wife 5 on 4/08/2019 after Stegosaur slot It was great fun I had been out previously without a gps and didn't feel comfortable enough getting back out of the initial downclimb if we dropped the wrong slot GPS Highly reccomended for this one Ryan's way points were perfect The white knob is about 8ft in diameter we found a couple other white knobs last time and couldn't decide which was it Group size of 2 took us just under 3 hours car to car All the anchors are in good shape we replaced webbing on 2 of them with ...
Comment on Sunglow Canyons / Trail - Bicknell
We did the west fork 2 days ago A beautiful and fun route All rappel, points have great bolts intact except for the 2nd optional rappel station where we left a sling on a chockstone Route was easy to find
Comment on Blarney Canyon - North Wash
Sunday 5/26/19 we descended the left fork with a 10 year old and 14 year old, first Canyoneering adventure Amazing journey! We approached by hiking to the highest points on the left looking right down into blarney canyon Easy trail with carins, maybe 30-45 minutes We did replace the third anchor/webbing as it was well worn and the approach a bit sketchy You could easily down climb this area where the new quick link is set up for more experience individuals, we rappelled there There was a twenty foot pool that chall...
Comment on North East Fork of TCB - Robbers Roost
Great canyon 30 minute approach, 2 hours in a stunning slot, 30 minute exit A little tighter than Middle Leprachaun, and a lot darker ! but super easy to go above any constriction Multiple exit points, great first 'tight' canyon Don't miss the dark chamber at the end!!!
Comment on MMI Canyon - Arches National Park
I've done it right after a rain and it was bad then Didn't mind it when it was dry but I won't do it after rain again and certainly not with snow or ice Big penalty points Earlier in the posts I give coordinates to what I call the sand hill or something like that I have exited that way a couple times and is my preferred exit even if the park doesn't like it
Comment on Lost and Found Canyon - Arches National Park
I don't, there is no real route finding beyond exiting and entering the canyons at those 2 points
Comment on Big Horn Canyon - Arches National Park
Went out on 2/9/2021 We were able to do the route with one 70m rope By downclimbing the first section of the first rappel and then rappelled using the single bolt/rock column Nik mentioned For the last bit, would recommend downclimbing the chute not rappelling off small pile of rocks and then heading left until you see a good sized, cubical boulder with webbing on it Rap that and there is a small brown sign that points you down the small wash out to the roadA really lovely jaunt in the backcountry of Arches! The Tu...
Comment on Right Fork of North Creek - Zion West Side
The approach is minimum five hours of HARD effort Not moderate effort, but hard There is no trail Even with an excellent GPS, it is still a beast approach, as ledges, bushwhacking, boulder and scree abounds It sucks, especially with a pack I am a pretty experienced canyoneer, and would only recommend three days for this route - one for the approach, one for the canyon, and one for the exit There is so much beauty in the second half that it seems a shame to rush past every waterfall oasis trying to beat the darkness...
