Comment on North Fork of Iron Wash - San Rafael Swell
lots of water, but only got feet wet once you can skip first swimmer by rappelling/downclimbing 10 feet on a talon hook up on a ledge to the left 2nd pool was low water, so only had to get feet wet Keeper hole was half full, but super easy to stem across it Why there are bolts/ropes there, who knowsas they are completely unnecessary and trashy The last pothole made this a super classic!
Comment on Birch Hollow - Zion East Side
#conditions Descended Birch Hollow today: one dad, two teenage girls, 5hr 15min round trip Road in is bomber The upper section to the first dry-fall/bypass is MUDDY!! Try and stay on the meandering trail that criss-crosses the creek to keep out of the mud- good luck! The other option would be the logging road approach Tom Jones mentions in his beta The two dry-fall raps were super cool with the creek running Water stopped after the second one and rest of canyon was dry to Orderville All anchors solid The mud over...
Comment on Upper Black Dragon Wash - Central Swell
Group of 4 super fun cliff jumping slot One person depth checked and the rest jumped most of the down climbs Pools were pretty full and deep for the most part Felt longer than it was but super chill approach and exit All the webbing still there
Comment on Benson Creek - Brian Head
Super fun with plenty of water in early July, could avoid getting fully drenched if wanted but was super refreshing All anchors in good shape
Comment on Egypt 3 Canyon - Escalante
Just did it 3/12/2025 and it was super dry and super fun! Just a couple small pools to stem over, only one of our group got wet except for the wrong turn I'm about to mentionWe were following these instructions closely, and got confused at one point about the "potential exit" Ryan talks about There is kind of a split in the canyon about 15 miles in, and we thought that was the potential exit and went right when we should have gone left, which I really don't recommend We ended up squeezing through spots much tighter...
Comment on Chimney Canyon - Hidden Splendor
Finally did this trip It has been on my list for years Super beautiful Unlike a lot of standard canyon backpacks where you are surrounded by Navajo the whole time, the terrain is quite varied since you climb out of one canyon muddy ck then do quite a bit of traversing before dropping into chimney after passing the little susan mine Every time you turn a corner on the traverse, you are treated to view of a new Wingate monolith Also I found the colors in the sandstone, especially in the lower reaches to be di...
Comment on Angel Cove Slot - Angel Point
#conditions Party of two, went down South Fork on March 16, 2026 Everything we saw was completely dry Took four hours at a leisurely paceSome anchors for the shorter rappels in the south fork were marginal, so we used a meat anchor backup We skipped the optional two-stage rappel at the end because the anchors left something to be desired Some rappels in the south fork are tricky; you have to awkwardly slide off an overhanging rock before you can start rappelling, so I would definitely only recommend this to groups ...
Comment on Rocky Mouth Falls - Wasatch Front
08/12/2012-Awesome rap! The trail that goes up the left side of the falls is really steep, definitely an all four scramble It takes about 10 minutes to get up, and the trail is on the right side We followed that over the ridgeline to where we set up a short 10m rappel to save ourselves the down climb rock face to get down We used a rock as a natural anchor That deposited us right at the top of the waterfall We downclimbed the first two short sections of the waterfall to get to the webbing and rapide links, which ar...
Comment on Monkey Business - West - West Butler
Super fun canyon for beginners however I can't stress enough how bad the first rope pull is If at all possible double strand rap or use methods without a block You can also rap from two separate anchors as long as you are willing to do a bit of stemming to get to the second rap Overall best beginner canyon I've ever done so much fun
Comment on Alcatraz Canyon - Robbers Roost
Road is in great shape right now Honda Civic all the way to the trail head with no problems
Knee deep water at the moment, no need for a wetsuit Everything you bring will get shredded to death Cheap leather gloves were great, as you'll have your hands on the walls for much of the canyon
Our group went up to about 180 lbs with no problems, only one tricky part to climb over
Super fun and strenuous canyon
