Navajo Rocks Ruin
Comb Wash
Overview
Situated along the expansive drainage of Comb Wash, the Navajo Rocks Ruin is a modest archaeological site that is labeled on USGS topographical maps. While many of the region's sites are tucked high within the sandstone of the nearby Comb Ridge, this site sits lower in the flats, possibly offering a glimpse into the agricultural periphery of the ancestral inhabitants.
The ruin consists of a small, weathered masonry structure nestled against a low-slung outcrop. Much of the original stonework has succumbed to time, but several discernible wall sections remain, showcasing the dry-stack construction typical of the area. Adjacent to the masonry, a shallow, south-facing alcove has a small collection of faded animal pictographs.
This isn't a ruin I would recommend to most. It is a small site with a sandy, cowed-up approach that I found not particularly scenic. Being labeled on the map, however, I was curious to check it out.
