Little Jamaica is one of the most popular summer outings in Littlefield. When the oppressive heat of summer becomes unbearable, Little Jamaica is natures waterpark! The area is a stone’s throw from the Interstate, and very easy access. Easy access is a double-edged sword, however. The upside is the terraced pools and dripping falls are an absolute delight in the summer heat and easy for the whole family to visit. The downside is the area can be quite littered.
A few years ago, Arizona Transportation Department was trying to close the area due to its proximity to the Interstate. In 2020, on our visit, there was a public notice the area is in process to be re-zoned to become a trailer park. So, who knows what the future for Little Jamaica will be? For now, it is a short stroll to a great place to cool off in the summer. Bring a swimsuit and towel!
Getting There
The trailhead is south of Littlefield AZ, in the tiny community of Desert Springs.
If travelling Westbound on I-15:
Take exit 9 off I-15, then turn left onto Fleet Street. Follow Fleet Street 0.2 miles and turn left, crossing under the freeway to the south side. Once on the south side of I-15, turn right on Farm Rd and follow It 0.2 miles to its end in a large dirt parking area.
If Travelling Eastbound on I-15:
Take exit 9 off I-15, then turn right onto Farm Rd. Follow Farm Rd west for 0.3 miles to its end in a large dirt parking area.
Route
From the parking area, head west to the bank above the river. Numerous trails descend from the parking area to the river where the pools and waterfalls are. Some of the trails can be steep, choose wisely!
The pools and waterfalls are inviting, as is just taking a soak in the Virgin River or lounging along the beach and immense boulders near the highway bridge.
