This is an excellent day trip to take with dogs, especially if you are trying to beat the heat of the St George area Temperatures are lovely in the summer, and the views are spectacular Hiking is easy and straightforward, if only a bit strenuous for the altitude Plenty of free and secluded camping back at Big John Flat, but yes you will have to put up with the incessant whir of ATVs during the daylight hours
Hey there Ryan! I so glad I stumbled upon your site! I would love to do this trail with my old man and our two dogs, but I saw on All Trails that dogs are only allowed on leash Is this a real thing No doggies off leash Bummer!
I didn't use your waypoints because the other site had more intermediate points going up to the mesa Because it was getting late in the day I wanted to make sure we were taking the most direct route possible FWIW I didn't see any cairns on our route, so maybe yours would have been better
There are also pictographs of little feet around the second set of ruins I'm surprised they bothered to fence off the first set of ruins there was so little there But the second and third are much nicer There is at least one more small habitation site after thatwhich is where we stopped because of a Tstorm With that water source in the canyon I would be surprised if there are not more

My camera died the day we did it, and I haven't gotten back to get some pics!

The water level of Dirty Devil varies widely, and changes on a daily basis Best thing is to go to the USGS site for an update each day https://waterdatausgsgov/nwis/uvsite_no=09333500Anything over about 75 cfs, you need a lifted truck on 35 inch tires to cross
I've always camped at Dewey Bridge, and done lunch on one of the islands along the way There is a lot of private land in this stretch, most of it not posted The best resource I know is the state site https://gisutahgov/data/cadastre/land-ownership/, but you have to have GIS knowledge to download and use their data to see it on a map
Though the nearby Jurassic National Monument is known for its dinosaur fossils, the road to the monument passes near a couple of excellent rock art sites One of the rock art sites is in what climbers call the Triassic Bouldering Area, while the other is in a nearby wash to the south Visiting the rock art panels is an walk suitable for most With a high clearance vehicles, both sites over very short walks In a low clearance vehicle, it is a 2-3 mile outing on easy terrain We enjoyed the rock art immensely, but also t...
