I haven't floated that, but have hiked it many times It is a very pretty, and probably class II in the 150-500 cfs range See https://wwwroadtripryancom/go/t/utah/san-rafael-swell/lower-muddy-creek for hiking details and pics I have not driven to the river from the Goblin Valley side, but have many times from the Factory Butte side If dry, the Factory Butte side is usually a good road suitable for even a Subaru type vehicle It would be a long shuttle If you do it, post back on how it went!
If you are lucky someone might even land a plane next to your campground! I was doing some climbing there a few years ago and some folks flew down from SLC climbed the moon tower then hopped back in their plane and flew home Very cool Although I imagine no one here would do this, please be considerate of the boulders The last time I was down there some folks with a huge fire destroyed one of the best boulder problems there I did not write this article but I was there when it happened https://grippedcom/routes/class...
I am hoping to do in the next week thinking backpack in from the lower trailhead and camp near the spring to the West of the Chimney trail / Spring Canyon junction and spend a day exploring Anyway, can anyone tell me if the ford of the Fremont is doable Looking at the flow gage it looks like flows are pretty average right now based on the past year of data But that gage is in Bicknell and not sure if it is a good representation of the situation further downstream ThanksLink the gage site https://waterdatausgs...
Yes, all bolting is illegal in BLM wilderness areas You can find all regulations for the Dirty Devil/Robbers Roost SRMA & WSA in the BLM Resource Management Plan for the Richfield, Utah Field Office of which the Henry Mountain Field Station in Hanksville is managed I've held a commercial use permit with them for the past 12 years and know their regulations wellHere is an online reference to the relative law: https://wwwblmgov/sites/blmgov/files/uploads/mediacenter_blmpolicymanual6330pdf See page 1-30, "Rock Clim...
Update on the rap 3 anchor There are only two sets of bolts, one higher set two bolts, chain to single ring for accessing the lower down-canyon-right set, and a lower set two independent chains for rappellingYou can rappel off the higher set for everyone but the LAPAR, then do a short rappel down to the lower anchor and reset Pulling ropes through the higher anchor from the ground is extremely challenging It will trash your ropes and the rock! Please rap off the lower anchor! Here are some pictures https://imgur...
The Hanksville BLM office can give you road conditions, it is graded periodically If recently graded, it is easy to get within 6 miles of the trailhead See the Poison Spring page comments for more details, some mountain bike it https://wwwroadtripryancom/go/t/utah/north-wash/happy-canyon-via-poison-spring It would be shorter to walk the 6 miles of easy/fast road than to try and go Burr Point North I think : Good luck, beautiful canyon
Been there 3 times, first time Zebra was completely dry, last two times it was full of water I have heard it usually is; and with recent wet weather in the area, will most likely be full when you go in the next week This video from fall 2014 with the wife and two kids 11 & 13 https://youtube/cGqziw4PM64 Mark 0:26 to 9:33 was our time doing Zebra The parking/TH is not marked, but it is just past a cattleguard, parking on right west side of HITR, cross the road to east and the trail is well established - careful t...
We did this hike the second weekend of January 2024 The drive in via Poison Springs Road was icy but not too bad The Dirty Devil river was knee deep where we crossed and full of flowing ice Happy Canyon is lovely We spent one night at the trailhead where the road becomes impassable and one night down at the mouth of Happy Canyon in the sand It was much warmer and less windy down in the canyon than up on the high road near the cliffs and there were many massive piles of stuck drift wood which allowed us to have a...
Did canyon Saturday Sep 28th Took a group of four of us 11 hours However my fiddle stick got stuck and I had to ascend my rope to fix it Could have made it in 10 hours If we were trying to go fast maybe we could have done it in 9 hours We were taking lots of pictures Anchors in pretty good shape Added new webbing to two of them Still enough water in Kolob creek that we had one stomach to chest deep spot to wade thru We were able to keep packs dry by holding them above our heads as we crossed the pool To...
In one instance we were able to set up a kairn anchor A sandtrap wasn't at all required but would have made this little problem easier and cleaner On another we slung a flake in the wall I didn't really trust it because it sounded hollow so we backed it up with a very very solid 2 person body belay up canyon as we sent the heaviest person down first The back-up body belay anchor was kept until the last and lightest person rapped without it A pull cord was used to retrieve the webbing and allow someone else to enjoy...
