I decided to backpack in, camp at 10,000 ft, and then hit the summit the following day. It was probably more work in the end, but at least split over 2 days. Granite Canyon road is a bit rough towards the end but I was able to make it all the way up with my full-size 4wd truck (6.1 miles). Not a human or vehicle to be seen for two days anywhere in the range or on the trail. Awesome peak!

My son and I hiked Gilbert Peak from Gilbert Lake, heading up the saddle to the South then cutting West along the ridge. A few sketchy spots with small cliff bands and loose boulders requiring moderate scrambling. Great area.
