OK primitive camping, I doubt anyone would be around, so the dog running free would probably be fine It's about 35 or so hours from SLC In most seasons, the roads are easily passable by all vehicles This time of year, I would be concerned about mud and/or snow, which could make the roads impassable You might want to call the Vernal BLM office 435 781-4400 and see if they know current conditions

Be careful on the long rappel to make sure the length of the webbing and size of the blocking carabiner does not make the rope pull difficult We used too large of a carabiner, due to a large link, and the carabiner got jammed in the narrow edge we ended up having to ascend the rope to the very top in order to pull the rope free and complete the canyon

Just want to second the caution on the 2nd to last rappel We were one of those unfortunate groups when we did this canyon in July 2015 that got our rope stuck in the chockstone pulling it Trying to free it caused us to exit the canyon after dark, and we ended up just cutting the rope since we couldn't see enough to ascend and weren't sure if there was somewhere to set up an anchor on the chockstone On the bright side, the Narrows in the dark is gorgeous! Anchors still look good on this route, water level is low right now so first two potholes were completely dry, the final one before the first rappel is still a swimmer but we were able to leap to the ledge on the right side and not get wet!
