Comment on Little Grand Canyon - Northern Swell

Floated this July 13, 2019 Entered the river at 175 CFS and exited the river at 150 CFS Two weeks ago this river was at about 1000 CFS I watched the USGS website for the San Rafael every day to decide whether or not to float! The high snow pack this year made the trip possible this late in the season The Canoes and Plastic Kayaks scraped the bottom 5-10 times during the 19 miles Had to put my leg out of the back of the canoe 2-3 times and push to get us going again For what its worth, one of our guys turned...

Comment on Keyhole Canyon - Zion Main Canyon

Fun beginner canyon Both times I've done it it's been very cold The first time I didn't have a wetsuit and I didn't die, but I was very chilly The second time I had a wetsuit and was pretty comfortable

Comment on Lost and Found Canyon - Arches National Park

Went back and did the climbing exit twice this weekend with a group of 9 Only one in our group was afraid and was belayed up without a problem I'd like to reiterate how easy the crux is It is quite exposed, but it's certainly not difficult If you don't feel comfortable with exposure or slab, don't do it If it has rained/snowed recently, don't do it If you don't have shoes with good traction, don't do it You will get hurt if you blow the crux and certainly don't want to do that; but I think to say that you will defi...

Comment on Lost and Found Canyon - Arches National Park

Wanted to share my comments about the climbers exit I am a long time climber was even in the Creek climbing before this trip so I brought my climbing shoes along for the slabs Ill preface by saying although I've climbed a lot, I do not freesolo and hate exposure I will never do this exit again Terrifying in my opinion The last 10 feet getting to the "seam" after the cairns run out - because it's to steep to make any and then the crux out of the seam and then the last 10 feet near the end of the "sidewalk" were thin...

Comment on Happy Canyon (via Poison Spring) - Dirty Devil

Honestly maybe not for the WHOLE road but e-biking the rim hike from the end of the road to the happy junction/petrified wood spot and then leaving your bikess at the junction yeah you'll need to get off several times so you don't die in a ditch would be a great way to get to Happy I'm not in the greatest shape so didn't make it down into the canyon, but had I had a bit of a ride through the hot, exposed rim hike, I would have definitely made it!

Comment on Lost and Found Canyon - Arches National Park

I'd like to offer another perspective on the climber's exit Sorry this is long!!!I have been climbing for over 20 years, all over the west and some internationally Grade wise I'm not an impressive athlete, climbing mid to hard 10's on sport, less on trad But I do have a lot of experience and am a risk management junkie, pretty conservative in my decision makingThe comments about the climber's exit include paraphrasing statements that it's no big deal, not hard, someone's teen did it barefoot, it's only 4th class, i...

Comment on Lost and Found Canyon - Arches National Park

Did this on 11/13 If you take the 2WD directions to Winter Warmer and then continue down the road towards the L&F/MMI parking lot, you can get to a campsite that is within a mile and a half of the trailhead without high clearance Great canyon Really fun downclimbing and the last rappel is spectacular For the climbers exit, we had 3 people, and we were really thankful for the bolts I think the modifier everyone needs to add to their difficulty rating is 55 X Slip on the sandy slab unroped at either crux and you'll p...

cave Providence Cave - Nothern Utah

Providence Cave, perched high above Logan in an alpine setting, provides a good outing for the family with competent leadership The cave itself is easy, except for a couple of tight squeezes at the beginning This is best enjoyed during the heat of the summer or early fall Roads will be impassable in the winter/spring Note: Jon Jasper has an excellent survey map on his website of the cave Well worth printing and bringing with you

float hike The Chute of Muddy Creek - Southern Swell

Often described as "an incredible hike", the Chute of Muddy Creek is also often followed up closely by "but what a long day" This is a pretty accurate description From Tomsich Butte to Hidden Splendor is a long day hike, but is through one of the most impressive non-technical canyons in the Swell This is a must do for fit hikers It can be backpacked, but Muddy Creek is not suitable for filtering or drinking, making water availability a problem There are small springs in lower Chimney Canyon, but by that time, you a...

hike Moonhouse Ruin (McCloyd Canyon) - Cedar Mesa

Moonhouse, in my opinion, is one of the most interesting ruins that is easy to visit on Cedar Mesa It is estimated to have been constructed about 800 years ago, with a unique design The ruins namesake room, Moon House, is a room with the moon painted on opposite walls Access is easy via a relatively short, but stunning hike The trail descends from the mesa, crosses the canyon, and visits Moon House proper, as well as several other ruins, granaries, and a kiva in the area Moon House Ruin is one not to be missed in m...
