Did the west fork with a group of 3 and it took us 6 hrs Wet suits were not needed The canyon was super beautiful and lots of fun down climbs and jumps into soft sand made for a great time The river at the bottom was crystal clear and so beautiful A way better river hike than the narrows No Draper moms in sight The hike out is a bit of a beast since you hike out in the heat so bring lots of water
Ticaboo Mesa is one of those places that most canyoneers talk about, but not in a sense of knowing what's actually out there. When you ask a seasoned canyoneer about Ticaboo, most just give a glassy look and just say "it's a rad area, you should check it out". UMM OK??? Well, this last weekend I dragged 8 of my closest friends out to the most remote desert location I think I have ever been in for what we expected to be the trip of a lifetime. We were not disappointed.First off, the drive out...
Great hike loved the canyonConditions in the canyon are super sandy river bed Made it a little difficult to hike in Be sure to follow the written directions and not the Google maps The road was a little washed out but easily passable with a decent rig The wash was definitely the worst partThe route is very clear just follow the canyon till you see the arch and the ruins I agree that it's a great place to turn around
Very fun canyon We did it 9/25/21 and we didn't have any issues with logjams; lots of fun swimming, some tight squeezing, standard slot obstacles, but nothing dangerous The excessive drought conditions out west probably mean this won't get super high water at any point The approach is a bit lengthy, took us 3 hours from Egypt Only did 2 raps, plus one handline off the lone bolt at the start of the grim section First rap into the riparian could use updated webbing The grim seemed pretty happy to us 9 hours CTC from...
Ran Birch with the Wild Wind Hollow exit 582021 The canyon was so beautiful with super solid anchors on all rappels A few comments 1 Rappel the bypass We skipped it but the group in front of us did it and it looked like a really fun rappel 2 The wild wind hollow exit is pretty well marked nowadays We never saw these other game trails and made it back to the car in an hour or so Next time we'll do the car shuttle and go out Orderville though
My wife and I did the extended route yesterday, 6/14/23 25 hours to the start, 35 to get through the canyon fully, and 2 for the exit, making it 8 total hours at a casual pace car to car I thought the approach was spectacular and beautiful Just one part that had a little route finding, but the track was super helpful here to avoid getting cliffed out We had 5mm wetsuits and we were warm in the water - it was great There was a flow the entire way, making this one of our favorite canyons we have done - just beaut...
Completed intermediate option a few days ago Only one small wade 3' deep and not really cold There were good anchors/webbing everywhere Getting our packs down the final rap and also making sure our rope did not stick were good challenges Beautiful once the canyon opens up too I have not seen many maple trees in this area, but here were many at least I think they were maples in this section Took two of us 7 hrs round trip, but we are not super experienced In fact this was our first intermediate trip Agree wi...
#conditions 11/08/24- very wet Several long sections of pools Some of the water like the pothole mentioned in previous comments can be avoided by staying up high Towards the end near the exit several pools of waist deep water 5’11” will be unavoidable Pothole was easy to step over and full to the lip so I don’t know how deep it really goes The canyon isn’t quite as deep or narrow as its neighbor Alcatraz but the first half gets super narrow and most if not all will need to go high over some log jams
Ran July 2, 2023 Amazing rap in! We did it after Chambers bring extra gas so it didn't feel super squeezy but there are definitely some tighter sections I felt there was one section in particular that was a little tighter but you can climb over with some effort Getting up to the pothole rappel makes for a fun little boulder problem if you have some rock climbing experience Water up to mid-calf where we had to get in Bolt had been removed by someone and hole filled in, but there is a handline there on a ground chock...
We had no trouble finding the arch with these instructions We brought a 200' rope which was too short to do the simul rappel There was a pine at the top of the arch that we used as a natural anchor We trusted it, however we also had someone act as a meat anchor just in case We had our own webbing and did the 115' single strand with our rope we could have easily done the 85' double stranded too The hike to the top of the arch isn't difficult, but it is strenuous especially if it's hot It was super easy to hike to th...
