The Wasatch Plateau just west of the Swell The San Rafael is created by Ferron Creek Millsite Reservoir, Cottonwood Creek Joes Valley Reservoir, and Huntington Creek combining not too far above the put-in Interesting, it looks like Millsite and Joes Valley are both less than 40% full Maybe they are holding water back in the reservoirs to fill themThere is also a fair bit of agricultural diversion before the confluence of the 3 above Ah, looks like they recently reduce the flow out of Joes Valley, from 300cfs to les...
Haven't been on the sitefor a while so playing catch up I've done the climbers exit - not long after a rain - and didn't like it I personally would do the side canyon - sanddune - exit as it is referred to in this thread now The link/map that Shane posted in the bogley sar blog entry http://wwwbogleycom/forum/showthreadphp45221-Undercover-MMI-SAR does identify the right spot Basically as you walk back up canyon you reach a wide sandy junction i where there are 3/4 canyons joining together The right mo...
Summer heat got you down along the Wasatch Front This is THE premiere way to get out of the heat and have some fun Having seen many people tube the river, it wasn't until 2012 that I finally gave it a go on a scorching 100-degree day It is amazing, and a ton of fun There are enough rapids and obstacles to keep you engaged, but nothing overly dangerous This is NOT a route I would recommend for children The first section, in particular, has many rocks, branches, and rapids that require a fair bit of attention The ina...
Of the two neighboring canyons, Lost Angel and Fallen Angel, I would have to pick Lost Angel as my favorite Short, open, and with very little water holding capacity, this makes a great cooler season adventure We did it right after heavy rains and snows and still kept our feet dry The canyon has a half dozen rappels, most with straightforward anchors, but good anchor skills are still recommended Reaching the head of the canyon is the trickiest part, bring a GPS or good navigation skills You'll spend far more time on...
World renowned, Fossil Mountain is one of the West Desert gems that many Utah locals don't even know exists In the far western edge of Millard County, Fossil Mountain is home to a variety of fossilized shells and other invertebrates This particular layer of fossils and sediment from ancient times also contains cephalopods, though it will take a fairly well-trained eye to find them This is a must do place to visit for rock hounds and those interested in fossils To be fair, and set expectations, on our visit we wande...
I consider a big part of the fun and enjoyment of canyoneering to be the route finding Great Gusto Canyon is one of those rare days that I didn't lead the group to the spot where I thought we would end up, but instead to a different drainage entirely The upshot of the snafu Instead of finding and rappelling through the arch I had hoped we would be rappelling through, we found an undocumented and impressive natural bridge and rappelled through that instead! Bridge, arch, it is all good! This is an advanced canyon be...
Tezctlipoca, although a very short tower at about 15 m tall, is very unique in it's shape The climb is short, but the approach hike is delightful with expansive views of the La Sal mountains, San Rafael Swell, Abajo mountains, and even the Henry mountains in the far distance on a clear day Don't expect to see anyone in this area Although close to the highways, it is infrequently visited
The iOS app is designed to be intuitive and easy to use, hopefully no use manual needed! However, if you want a quick overview, here is an iOS TripGuide 101 Quickstart guide.
Step 1 - Open the app. I know, does this step really need to be listed?!?!
Step 2- The main screen shows all installed areas. Since there are no areas installed yet, tap Add / Remove Area.
Step 3 - From the list of all available areas. Tap on an area to view its details. Capitol Reef in o...
Climbing Cleopatra's Chair is something I had wanted to do for a long time The 56 C0 rating made it sound fun, the "shoulder stand" made it sound adventurous True to my impression, it didn't disappoint The route is not for 56 leaders! We avoided the shoulder stand at about 58, but above that move there is a good section of runout climbing A slip would be disastrous, and help a long way off Cleopatra's Chair is a true adventurous desert summit best left to those with a bit of experience The summit is amazing, howeve...
High spur is in many people's opinion the most beautiful canyon in the Robber's Roost area I would agree it is certainly high up on the list It is a photographers dream! Although technical, much of it can be enjoyed by hikers hiking down and returning the same way The technical difficulties are straightforward, making this a good canyon for canyoneers of all abilities It also, generally, doesn't hold much water, making it a good early or late season outing
