Ticks

Great morning jaunt, 2hrs22min car to car, group of two via standard trail approach. Note: there are several active bear in the area. Please use caution on the approach. All anchors are in great condition and flows are low. The pull from the 2nd rappel is a bit odd with the fallen tree below the 10’ tier. It could benefit from a secondary anchor RDC at that tier. Water temp is comfortable with no neoprene. We encountered a large and aggressive rattlesnake near the picnic area on the exit. Be aware of your surroundings.

Hot and sun exposed start to finish. 1hr15 car to car group of two with a rest at the bottom to try to stay in the shade. Canyon is full but all water is avoidable. The last rappel is not a great pull and rope grooves have become prevalent. There’s a secondary bolt station at the dryfall DCL of the typical tree, but it is poorly placed as well and rope grooves are developing there too. If anyone chooses to continue through the last rappel please consider using a toggle or transient anchor so we may preserve the canyon better. Or better yet, don’t go to the bottom and make your exit shorter.

Completed with a group of 12, 5hrs car to car. We started early to attempt to avoid the heat. It didn’t work. The anchors are all in place as expected. The canyon is as full of water as I’ve ever seen it. Several of our group were able to stay dry until the 5th major downclimb, but even with creative stemming avoiding the water became impossible. Several pools are full on swimmers. Water is murky but clean. It is in what I’ve coined “slippery mode”. Pothole is full and moki steps are caked in very slippery mud. This could be a problem for the less experienced or underprepared. Exit was hot as expected.
