I was here end of June right after two full days of rain and it was a blast In the West Fork nothing was more than chest deep and everything looked about as full as it could get Anchors were pretty good but we built a back up Deadmans anchor next to one that was showing some good wear up at the second rappel, and pulled up and added a second to the deadman anchor that is built accross the pothole with water I didn't notice anything overly tight, nothing more than normal, if my memory serves me correct The west fork...
Agree with fordacious and acoustichiker Hiked this 5232022 and that side gully is super sketchy, especially near the top Lots of 200lb loose boulders and even the bigger stuff feels like it could come off and trigger a big slide If you think it looks sketch at the bottom, it is way worse up top Don't do it Wish we had read the comments here before going
I think we may have been the group that did it with you! Such a fun canyon!! The water was much colder than usual in the swim parts But usually brisk regardless much dryer than usual though Water was super low Have usually ran into quicksand pots and gotten wet much sooner
The Behind the Reef road is mostly fine, but there’s a super gnarly section not far from Chute Canyon off the Temple mountain road Conditions and skilz are everything, I guess, but it’s always looked from a bike way harder, narrower, and more off camber than, say, anything on the White Rim; might want to get on a 4x4 site about that first
we have a group going thursday Oct 29th Super concerned about water and appropriate clothes to wear It will be our first time ever to this location Sounds like you went 10 days No wet suit needed What would you recommend wearing and taking with How long did it take to do this canyon and what size group did you have going through
First trip 4/2019 then again 8/1/2020 New log debris before the first rappel easily passable under Also, new log at bottom of 2nd rap, now 2 logs there Still able to dc or pull rope from above for belay from below the logs Still a super fun canyon worth repeating in my opinion The climb out is fun too Wouldn’t attempt it if it was wet or snowy tho
Road condition was totally fine 9/7 and we thought this was super worth the visitFor getting in the giant pothole, half our group did and half didn’t Those who did agreed that most of the experience is looking at it anyway and not to stress if you don’t walk in But going down the steps seemed much scarier than coming back up would be
First Comment no way! Anyways, we ran up 5 and down 6 on 10/13/23 group of 2 It's a super fun canyon with 5 for the drive having 3 major up climbs Like Ryan says, the first is definitely the hardest The second one felt a little scary to me but definitely easier since you can stem until you're able to reach the substantial handholds As for going down 6 it's very straightforward and easy but sustained! there were to many DC's to count but somewhere around 10 or so Car to car in 4 hours with some river fun All in all...
Did it on 3/27/2021, dry except for a couple ankle deep puddles A group of ten behind us were all wearing wet suits, hopefully they got to splash around in the mud a bit Webbing at the second rappel the one out of the pot hole looked a little old, but held up just fine Car to car in 3 hours cause we’re super speedy About an hour through the canyon and 2 hours for the exit We also did not see any spiders
4/5/2021 Super fun and short canyon that was dry All of the webbing was newer and in place making it easy for our group to pass through First rappel might be a bit daunting for beginners, but can easily be extended making it easier to start and to pull Follow the cairns on the way and have fun with the downclimbs!
