#conditions Did a morning run on November 9th The canyon was bone dry Someone has built a new anchor on the left side of the second-to-last rappel It's just webbing, but there's a lot of it We opted for the right anchor Most of the anchors had double webbing I cleaned one, but left the rest alone I didn't see any bolts I did see where the bolts on the final rappel had been cleaned up The Alligator Rock is still super solid I didn't check for a bolt backup on it The chopped and cleaned bolts were over by the ledge
Did a fun trip this last weekend and I really like the order we did them RTR descriptions were accurate to find the start of each canyonDay 1: Wife 4 and Wife 1 Good warmup to remind everyone how to do this canyoning thingDay 2: Wife 3 and 5 Super fun! Lots of sequencing and rigging for team efficiency! Day 2 extra credit: TOTGA High exposed downclimbing and definitely R rated VERY FUN if you like high stemming There is a slung arch about halfway down to avoid a particularly exposed move but anyone descendin...
Ran it on may 10, 2025 Water flow made the second rappel extremely not beginner friendly Getting under the waterfall on super slippery rock, could easily cause a beginner to panic There is a 3rd rappel to get down to the top of the waterfall, but it can easily be skipped and down climbed I would recommend a wet suit for the higher water flow, would make it easier to concentrate on rappellingAlso please don’t stack rocks by the chains, they aren’t hard to find and would easily be kicked off into the crowd of people ...
Did this 10/24 in completely dry conditions We had a group of 5 and took our time so it ended up taking about 10 hours We got off of the provided route of the MIA exit but it ended up being way shorter We basically just followed the main social trail and some cairns and realized that we were on the shortcut route The normal route didn't even seem very obvious to us I'd recommend the shorter route which cuts up to the road quicker rather than dropping into the valley Very fun canyon although too short You have to lo...
My husband and I did the canyon at the beginning of April 2019 We came to that first dryfall and thought we could go down but were not sure we could make it back up so we walked one minute to the right and found a rocky area we could get down and easily climb back up We then walked to the canyon and got down in it and started to enjoy the hike However, our goal was to make it to the sheep bridge but we came to a super tall dryfall and once again, we could probably get down it but not back up Just beyond this d...
Just did this route, very nice canyon Long exit slog, though The red anchor webbing at rap was very rotten, and missing the rappel ring, so I replaced it with 30' of new salmon colored webbing with a new rapid link, also extending the ring closer to the drop, for a smoother rope pullIn Ryan's driving directions, he says "At 56 miles from the ranch, a side road goes off through a gate Road #4661" - I interpreted this to mean I was to take that side road through the gate - I wound up stuck at the bottom of a super ...
Ran Drill Hole on 10/14/23, what a lovely canyon! It took 3 of us about 5 hours car to car going at a leisurely pace We were able to stay completely dry with a little of extra work to get around the large pool at the head of the canyon We actually counted 5 raps, there are two raps both about 14 feet tall between the big rap/down climb and the final rap, we couldn't see any straightforward way to downclimb either not that we looked very hard We used a sandtrap on the final three raps and downclimbed the gully, whic...
#conditions The canyon was super-muddy, which made for more challenging conditions Group of 7 with 6 true beginners Most of the downclimbs occur after the 2-stage rappel and were often intermediate-level with elevator style, dropping under a boulder, etc A bit surprising given the relative ease of the canyon above that Active leadership necessary for beginners A few of us did the final rap and jugged back up so we could do the shortcut exit It was fun and the solution pockets and angles do make it a fairly simple a...
Group of 4 did this canyon both 9/4/22 and 9/6/22 as both of the leaders scored advanced permits Ranger said there are 80 people allowed in per day, and usually only about 12 or so do top down Mystery, for comparison, only allows 12 people total per dayWe had wetsuits which we used and appreciated for the swims Prob could have toughed it out without, but was nice to have at least 2-3mm or shorty suit along withThe first obstacle was tackled differently each time I do not think the down-climb to the right of the lar...
Did this 10/7/23 No water/ everything dry Beautiful! We rapped from the tree with a fixed rope/anchor Came back after the hike out to retrieve Would highly recommend NOT pulling your rope and just going back to retrieve There are some crazy rope grooves and the angle from which you rappel to the first stage from where you set your anchor, then move over to the second stage, the rope has a pretty crazy "bend" that it will do around the sandstone and make for a very not fun pull especially with a 181ft or rope to pul...
