Devils Canyon Nature Trail is a short interpretive trail at the Devils Canyon Campground between Monticello and Blanding This short trail makes a great "leg-stretcher" if passing through the area The campground is also quite nice, if needing a place to camp for the night This short 04-mile hike has 15 markers with information about the area On our visit, there was one very tattered brochure to use and return to the trailhead register when done with the hike The points of interest are reproduced below in case the br...
Just completed this 09/28/2024 Take hole in the rock Rd 16 miles turn left there is a sign Egypt Rd take that 10 miles to a dead end Egypt trailhead Road is fine atm passable I would argue gpx map is a must The hike from trailhead to river is 90 min Go early and it's not to bad The canyon itself does have plenty of water and currently no escape pot holes, water wasn't super cold 60' but there is roughly 3 - 5 swimmable sections Hike out is awful as I'm sure most have mentioned Pro tip: soak in river for a few min p...
Did this canyon on 7/24/23, approach from Wildcat trailhead is very nice and easy to follow Once down in canyon we were amazed at how beautiful it really was Wetsuits were nice to have in the colder wet sections where you don’t get sun Once out of the Subway and you’re past the main log waterfall then it’s just scrambling and climbing over or around rocks, trees etc back and forth, we finally just tried to stay in the river but super slow going Beta from different sources say 8-9 miles Totally incorrect, two of us ...
7/10/2022, ran this with a group of 5 About 25 hours car to car The trails are super clear Follow RTR's beta for when to turn off the main trail but no route finding is needed as the trail is well tracked out The canyon itself is phenomenal! First rappel was shockingly beautiful and a few people's favorite rappels ever those individuals having run at least 50-100+ raps each I think rap 3 has been updated since the beta was originally posted There were bolts near the edge that led to it not being a full 53 ft rappel...
Fun times in the Upper Box Went for the short route Found the upper rappel off to the right of the drainage Very exposed downclimb getting to the ledge! There are two bolts about 20' above the ledge to belay/rappel down to the ledge with chains The rap is big and exposed Free hanging the last 40' We are not sure if this is the correct rappel as it didn't fit the description Super fun nonetheless! Be careful of the sharp edge near the top of the rappel Pretty much a full 60m to reach the canyon floor We f...
#conditions Ran on 4/12/24 Holding a little water Stayed in the canyon and off the green dots and found the small slot section and corkscrew down climb with minimal water and perfect to play in Chamber holding ankle deep water with one small sand island most people got wet feet but avoidable with some careful team work with your bottom belay to nicely land on the island Had to help the group in front of us who got a 10yo stuck mid way on Rap 1 on an ATC and double stranded rope with no contingency options We set u...
Did the left fork approach and with a party of 3 did it in sub 8 hrs trailhead to bus station It had just flash flooded but wasn’t full like we thought it would be we brought a 20,30 and 70 meter rope and the shorter ropes were awesome for all the short raps You can do every rap with a 20 meter except the 2nd to last and last and the first ones on the left fork Wet suits were only needed in the one big boi keeper hole in the second section we had to stack to get out but the rest wasn’t necessary, parter assist mad...
10/17/23 group of 2 Middle Fork car to car in just under 4 hours For sure, North Wash needs some water soon it is dry out here! No water to be seen in mid but man was it tight! I am 5'7" 140-150LBS and I definitely would not want to be any bigger although there was another group of 2 behind us who were a little bigger than us and they had no problem There were really only 2 or 3 spots that were super tight but you could likely get stuck in these if you are bigger boned As far a rope goes we didn't end up having eno...
Newbies here, our second canyon after the Subway It was a great hike, we loved crawling through the tunnel, and the boulder field was no joke but the views at the top of the mesa were awesome and all worth it We rappelled the first "downclimbable" rappel as a warm up and our 200 rope was a bit short bc we double stranded it with no pull so we just slid on our bums the 15 ft down to the next rappel which was really funAt the end, there isn't a need to go down the chute Just walk left around the corner and you will...
did it yesterday I don't know if I would call it class 4 scrambling but then again yeah maybe Someone had extended the webbing from the deadman anchor shelf with a single run of new webbing and placed new webbing on a lot of the other raps The webbing for the deadman itself was faded and pretty old - definitely from last season at least, but looked sound enough We trusted it and survived anyway Rap 6 is now a deadman as well with a single older piece of buried webbing, and backed up with the new webbing to a n...
