#conditions 4/2/24 - Completely dry 7 of us, 4 adults, 3 teenagers 3 hrs 15 minutes For anyone wondering how tight this is / if you will fit: I'm 5' 115", 187 lbs and pretty good at getting through tight spots I had previously done Middle Leprechaun which had a couple of questionable spots for me In Chambers there were 3 places where I questioned if I would get by On one I had to get on tip toes to get to a slightly higher space to shimmy by The last super tight spot I wasn't sure if I would get by, but had...
#conditions Ran today on 4/23/24 We had a 3/2 wetsuit, and it honestly wasn't needed today We were hot most of the day and wishing there were more pools to cool off in, but it has been decently dry and hotish as of late With the little beta on Ryan, we went to Bluegnome for more, and it is definitely very helpful! Also, check out Ropewiki and download the caltopo Once in the canyon really take in the beginning, it was one of my favorite parts The Twin Brothers and East Temple make you feel so insignificant! As previ...
Did the longer route on 9/17/24 We drifted down hill on the approach and ended up getting cliffed out on the same spot as someone else They had left an anchor on a tree that was very recent so we were able to rap the 100ft to finish the approach into the upper canyon section So be wary of the traverse to the start of the upper canyon as it is apparently getting people to go lower than the route description/map on here We used the map /GPS feature to verify that we were in the right drainage both for the start and e...
#conditions 10/12/24 Took the direct route 5 people in the group, 4 experienced, 1 beginner Canyon is in full keeper mode Water was pretty low We encountered waist deep water in a couple sections early on, but almost none past the bypass in the string of keepers Temperature was in the upper 80's We all wore wetsuits and found them to be more of a hinderance than a help Anchors were all in good condition, but the webbing is getting old, and will need replaced soon Unburied and checked all deadmans Brought a sandtrap...
#conditions Ran 4/25/24 with a group of 13, first rap’s deadman had been sketchily built, so my group rebuilt it Second raps anchor was good Rappelled the down-climb off one of the guides The third necessary rap’s anchor had been completely dismantled and apparently the previous group rappelled off of two rocks There was a large pile of rocks behind it that evidently had been the anchor beforehand We rebuilt this one and finished the canyon off The stems are tight in some places, hence the name, but nothing too dif...
08/12/2012-Awesome rap! The trail that goes up the left side of the falls is really steep, definitely an all four scramble It takes about 10 minutes to get up, and the trail is on the right side We followed that over the ridgeline to where we set up a short 10m rappel to save ourselves the down climb rock face to get down We used a rock as a natural anchor That deposited us right at the top of the waterfall We downclimbed the first two short sections of the waterfall to get to the webbing and rapide links, which ar...
#conditions 4/3/2024 Lots of rain recently in this area which has caused a lot of mud and erosion My friend tried to do this canyon the day before but had to turn around due to the muddy road to get to the trailhead deep ruts We tried on the 3rd and were successfully able to get our minivan carefully to the Birch trailhead We dropped a truck off at the Orderville trailhead using a high clearance vehicle, the road was pretty rough The mud was unreal on the trail, but also slippery and funny We encountered snow on th...
Hey Ryan, awesome website and trip reports! Very much inspired by your blogsHowever, these DIRECTIONS ARE VERY WRONG, and confusing and led us to drive around for 3 extra hours The mileage you listed is off, and also, the take-out/put-in directions are reversed Tomsich Butte is the PUT IN and Hidden Splendor is the TAKE OUT We ran into several parties on these roads that had made the same mistakes, and there were several cars with boats on top of them driving down random roads in the Swell for hours We eventu...
5/12/23 - Completely dry I led a group of 3 beginners through, we took the short exit and we were 5 hours car to car at a slow pace and a lot of stops on the steep exit scramble I much more deep sand walking on the exit than I expected All drops had bomber anchors I added webbing to rap1 rap0 to make me comfortable with the edge wear We did not feel comfortable downclimbing this Rap 3 rap 2 is said to be 73 feet, but the second stage was easily slide able without a rope for us Near the end we encountered a super sh...
Excellent route description I've heard about the "Moab Via Ferrata" for years and finally did it last week Super fun! And classic Moab - like you said, instead of bomb-proof cables I've done VF's in Italy, France, and Switzerland the traverse cable is 1/4" from Tru-Value Hardware - gotta love it All anchors are good as of today and the cable and 3 hand lines can be trusted Note that unlike an engineered Ferrata, if one slipped off the rock one could slide to the bottom of the hand line even while clipped in, so us...
