Jeff. Linked to subway. Deep and dark with lots of water. Chilly and amazing.
Full route, group size of six. Four of us in our 40s-50s + two whippersnappers. 14 hours car-to-car: 4 for the approach, .5 to suit up, 5.5 technical portion, .5 to un-suit, 3 to exit. Brutal approach and exit. Absolutely exhausting, but a stunningly perfect, gorgeous day. The canyon was in stellar conditions - clear, full, and flowing. I was comfy in 6mm. A body-fat-challenged member of our group was shivering most of the canyon in 5mm. Do not underestimate the physical stamina required. 3L of water minimum. Ryan's GPX is absolutely necessary for the approach. There is no "social trail" once you leave the Subway approach route, and you WILL waste time and energy bushwhacking and backtracking if you do not follow his route precisely.
Fairly dry and warm. There were only a handful of spots where you couldn't touch the ground.
Lower section only. Amazing. One of my favorites yet.
Ryan and Josh Wilcock, Elise Timothy. Short Das Boot + Subway
zack alger. Full Das boot and subway. chasing flashfloods
This was a fun slot to hike through. The water was still cold, our wetsuits were more than adequate. We didn’t see any rappels over 40 feet. Before we knew it we were in the Subway. We had permits to do both, which really was a great addition to the top part of the Subway.
Das Boot! Quite the experience. Beautiful, cold, rigorous, long. Used my 2-piece, scuba wetsuit (~5:10); wouldnât have wanted any less neoprene.

Super cold. 4/3 wetsuit was a minimum, would have liked more. 10 hours car-to-car.
Makes the Left Fork so much better.
