the big chockstone (37.89911, -110.55818) about 0.43 miles below the confluence of the two trailhead forks is definitely not dog friendly. We were with our 50 lb Australian shepherd and had to turn back, as it was a bit hot and late to look for a bypass, though we did look a little and saw nothing obvious. It's about a 15' drop and would have been too challenging for two beginners in our group without a rope.

Little ones and needed a hand line (plus harnesses). Went down trail and up MW. I’d recommend down MW and up scenic route. Trail Canyon was pretty in bottom 3rd, decent in middle and unappealing in upper 3rd - all of it was walking on large river cobbles. MW had three or so unavoidable pools - with the uppermost being to my belly button (I’m 6’2”). Lots of vegetation and water in bottom 3rd of MW. Long day (7/7.5 hrs)

this was a long miserable day. We hiked this canyon and came up trail canyon with three kids ages 6, 8, and 10 and two dogs on a very hot day. we all ran out of water with two miles to go. Maidenwater was beautiful, but the hike out going up trail canyon was terrible. trail canyon was nothing but ankle breaking river rocks for miles. we hated it.
