Good canyon Baptist draw had several mid shin to knee deep short pools of water, but the rest of the canyon was bone dry Shame! We really wanted it to be wet The exit was really long! Especially since it was early afternoon and the sun was facing straight down that side canyon exit the entire time 95º - the canyon was fine, the exit was super hot
4/2/22, both anchors in decent condition, no water It is pretty tight, but I think getting to the second rap was the tightest part I made it with no serious difficulties being 6' 2", 205#, dragging a small pack The first rap is in a narrow slot that isn't super convenient to leave packs or put on harnesses I'd suggest using a small open area about 200' before the first rap, just before the slot for the final rap But note the route Ryan gives hits a slot or two before that as well, so it might be tricky to tell when...
I visited the summit last week To chime in on thedifficulty rating, I would agree with the class 3 rating for the skirt of thenipple mainly because I felt a little uneasy when descending, and the class 4rating for the final, steep pitch to the top In fact, I noticed a slingaround a wide, stubby horn on the ridgetop just below and North of thesummit I also noticed a sling around a tree in the gully just beforereaching the actual upper flank of Fern's Nipple There's a very short class 3section just below the tree The...
Road is in great shape right now Honda Civic all the way to the trail head with no problems Knee deep water at the moment, no need for a wetsuit Everything you bring will get shredded to death Cheap leather gloves were great, as you'll have your hands on the walls for much of the canyon Our group went up to about 180 lbs with no problems, only one tricky part to climb over Super fun and strenuous canyon
#conditions June 19-0 CFS, 95 degrees, very light flow, Lukewarm water temp, no wetsuits needed SUPER FUN! Swimmers & shallow floats Lots of mud on edges Suggest staying in the water to avoid sinking up to mid thigh in mud All webbing new & in good shape No log jams Road in good shape Can’t wait to come back & do again
Fantastic for adults and families! Two unavoidable rappells and several optional that my kids needs as they were too small to stem and chimney All anchors are chains, in great condition, and easy to find Super fun Completely avoidable water until very end with 3 ft deep section that I could stem but my kids couldn’t- so I carried them through it Perfect to teach kids on first canyon Largest rappel is closer to 70 ft
We did Cassidy over UEA in October The anchors were all in good shape: all bolts with chains and one sling around a tree I do not consider this canyon to be a beginner canyon because of the exposure, commitment factor big drops to start and no way out but down and the second rap's blind Having experience with long raps on uneven terrain makes Cassidy a piece of cake, but not a place to you can make a mistake Super fun route if you have the skills and gear!
I was super surprised with this canyon I didn't think I'd like it so much The hike was beautiful, I've always loved the Virgin River Gorge! Crossing the river wasn't a problem But, I think if the Virgin was over 170 CFS would be a bit sketchy Fun hike just over an hour, rappels were all natural but in good shape The trip took us just over 5 hours car to car I'll be back to do this one again soon! Great canyon if you're in St George and have an afternoon!
Went down South Fork and up North Fork on 10/3/21 No fixed ropes and no anchors on the way up North Fork, but we managed to get through with lots of partner assisting including a 4 adult/2 kid human pyramid for one obstacle and a sketchy free solo move for another Super fun but not for the faint of heart without fixed ropes Car to car in 5 hrs
2/23/24 - North forkHad 55lb packrafting packs for a Dirty Devil trip so we beefed up each of the dead man anchors There were no fixed lines anywhere The section after the forks connect is a lot more narrow than I was expecting and was difficult to get heavy packs through We scraped the hell out of our gear Really cool area and the canyon was a lot better than I was expecting The camping trailhead is also pretty good with a super easy approach
