Trip Stats | Ding and Dang Canyons - San Rafael Swell

First time, with kiddos

My partner and I did Ding and Dang Canyons and Little Wild Horse and Bell Canyon in one day - our first time ever in the swell. It was the perfect combination!! These canyons are truly spectacular, and every turn and new view was better than the last. We brought a hand rope, but never needed it. There were solid ropes along all the 5-6 sections coming down Dang Canyon.

Trevor and I went through on an overcast day with Temps in the mid to upper 40's. Potholes up to waist deep in Dang, knee deep in Ding.

Fun canyon, Kat got wet, did the loop Ding to Dang.

First time into these canyons. Went up Ding and down Dang. A little bit of scrambling and downclimbing, especially in Dang Canyon. Some water in Dang had to be stemmed over, but I stayed dry. A small rope or webbing may be useful for those with less experience.

Perfect non-technical canyon for adventurous scramblers. Rope is optional depending on the groups ability. Nice link up.

Family hike

Molly and I knocked this out in the morning. Molly worked through all of her fears and got through... and enjoyed it. There is quite a bit of water in the slots, some can be stemmed across and other could not (unless some sort of buddy stem is used). Hiking connecting the two canyons in the back was a bit hot. We went counter clockwise. Up ding was quite easy, with a few spots that were more challenging for Molly. Down Dang had 3 or 4 bigger drops (10-15 ft). Molly like using a hand line (I made out of 40 feet of p-cord) to get down these drops.

Nice Canyon for the day.

I took our High Adventure group through this canyon, it was fun. If I do this again with YM I will definitely make them all wear helmets. There were 2 awkward rappels that I would have DC but they needed to rappel, and a couple of them with little experience fell backwards and hit their shoulders on the wall.

Wish we'd had rope for 10ft drop but we lowered each other down and spotted and made it through all the obstacles together!

My first Canyoneering experience with Mike Pintal and Martina Hauptmann

Awesome hike Ding was fun, nothing too difficult. Dang had a few interesting down climbs. One in particular had a rope that was very helpful. Got a little wet and had to stem across 50 feet or so to avoid chest deep water

Fun. A short piece of rope was useful for us and the two parties that got stuck infront of us.

Thanksgiving! And kinda sick

Estimated date-went on family trip with little kids. Kids loved it. Dang had lots of water which really increased the memory factor... It was cold.
