Again with Kaden but much wetter. One small swimming section and decided to rappel the first. Forgot how many chockstones you have to climb over in Chute Canyon in the short route.

Long, physical day with Leslie, Chris, Rich and his daughter, Abby. Two potholes in keeper mode. Traverse line was in place for the easier of the two. Pot shots are a must for escape. 100' rope is minimal with equivalent pull. Many single bolt rappels and many were spinning and loose.

Went with Tammy, Mark, Rich, Seth, and Ron. Flow was 6.5 cfs and we did get very wet. I wish I brought the full wetsuit! Air temp was about 65 degrees at the start (high elevation). Very nice sections, but short. Fun rappels from natural anchors except the last which was bolted. A great way to cool off!

Kaden's first time through. Very dry, but some pools just above waist. No ropes, still fit through the last tight spot. Did it all in less than 2 hours.

Quick trip with Kaden. We did this without ropes. Dry throughout. Keeper may need partner assist, but we did it without.

Did this canyon with Chris Welsh, Ron Bauer and Sri Rangarajan. It was wetter than expected, since the other canyons in the area were dry. This one had up to waist-deep water. The last rappel was about 90' with a wedged rock anchor (solid). The last of the rappel was free. The hike out was a bit long, but decent scenery and not too sandy/woody.

Did this with Chris Welsh, Ron Bauer, and Sri. This was the wettest canyon in the area with up to thigh-deep water in places. Only one real rappel at the end off a wedged chockstone and a long overhanging section. It was a long hike out, but nice.

Did this canyon with a large group - Tammy Berrie, Ron Bauer, Chris Welsh, Chris McPhie, Sri Rangarajan, Brian Reishl, Mark Chamberlin. Anchors were in good shape and the rappels were straight forward. This would be a good beginner canyon, but one rappel has an awkward start off a wedged overhanging boulder. We did the last rappel and ascended back for the short route, but not sure this was worth it as the narrows end soon after. Dry.

Did this one with Mark Chamberlin, Chris Welsh, Sri Rangarajan, and Brian Reischl. Very tight, very dark. The top rappel anchor was a small chockstone but worked out okay. It's a skinny stem over to the second drop (we used the top anchor and pulled the rope from above). The rest is straight forward but some skinny places. Headlamp would be useful.

Did this canyon with Tammy Berrie, Ron Bauer, Chris Welsh, Chris McPhie, Sri Rangarajan, Brian Reishl, Mark Chamberlin and Tom Neefe. It was mostly dry with easy to avoid water. Anchors were in good condition. I thought the west fork was nicer than the east fork with a nice, dark section at the end. Not too narrow, but there are some draggy spots.

Hiked up the right fork and down the left with Memo.

Hiked up the left fork and descended the right fork with Memo

Dry, did it with Memo. Can be done with a 80’ rope

Did this with Kaden. Used bolts on the first two small drops then fiddled a tree down to the second to last bench. Due to snow/ice, we fiddled a rock immediately below the previous drop, but stuck the rope. I had to climb up the slab with ice (scary) to retrieve the rope then traverse over the the normal slab rappel. There are more short rappels if using a shorter rope. The last rappel was only about 60 ft from the smaller boulder on the left of the large boulder above the final corner drop. Even with mishaps and snow, we did it in 2.5 hours.

Did this with Kaden. Short, easy and dry canyon close to Moab. Can be done with a short rope. I had to ascend the last overhanging drop because I forgot to take carabiner out of the fiddlestick which ended up being a very difficult ascent due to the overhand and the seem just above that pinched my ascender. Hard lesson. Pleasant walk out from Mill Creek.

Did this with Kaden, Ron and Flo. Looks intimidatingly, but rappels pretty well off of the large juniper tree. The bottom chamber is pretty spectacular and the short narrow below were better than expected.

Went with Kaden and Flo. Used a sage brush anchor backed up by a rock horn. 2nd half of rappel is a lot of work trying to stay out of the crack. Not sure I'd do this one again. There is another nearby fork that looks to have some short narrows.

Went with Kaden, Ron and Flo. All dry. Easy anchors with bolts. The big rappels are not to bad. Would do again.

Did Woodsy with Tammy and Tom. Fun canyon with a couple easy rappels, one of which could be downclimbed. Nice hidden pothole in the end. Can be a bit tight in some places.

Very fun pothole canyon. We tried the pothole fork the next day- but had some large potholes and we only had a team of 3. Not terribly difficult with natural anchors and pot shots. I will be back for more pothole practice!

Interesting canyon with one rappel in the black rock section. Different than surrounding canyons, but may not be worth repeating unless a safe, short jaunt is in order.

Fun little canyon! Did with large group of Tammy, Tom, Tim, Julie, Austin, Rebecca and Ann. Was able to do mostly dry, but wet feet. Easy rappels, but with awkward starts.

Did this with Kaden, Flo and LG and took 5:30. Wet, a couple swims, barely fit through some of the narrows and had to go high in a few places. The rappels are straightforward. A cairn anchor was at R1 and a chockstone anchor was at R2 although a sandtrap would work here. Much tougher and physically exhausting than described.

Went with Kaden, Flo and LG. Did Hog 2 first, straightforward and easier than the others. Climbed the prow between Hog 1 and 2 (10' of 5.6 climbing to gain the ridge). Boss Hog was about the same as last time - physical, dry and fun!

Pools were nearly full and very stinky! Did this with Leslie and John Schipper, Tammy Berrie, Tom Neff, and Ron Bauer. All short rappels.

Did this with Ron Bauer, Tammie Berrie and Tom Neff. Only 1 real rappel that starts with an optional rappel or downclimb. The anchor was stuck in the crack below and I had to rappel from the top anchor to retrieve it for the others. The bottom part is just some downclimbs and one where a handline is nice, but is more grippy than it appears. We continued down to Lower Eardley for a total of 17.2 miles from point to point. Upper Eardley is very beautiful and easy going ,but about halfway down the going gets slow with willows, boulders, mud and just more difficult and steep terrain.

Second time down Zero G. Pools were full and mostly clear with clean water. I set the rappel, but just downclimbed. Pothole was easy to escape when full.

Did this with Kaden and Rich. Hot day, the hiking approach takes a lot of energy. We found the shortcut, but since none of us had done it, we elected to take the standard route. This added more hiking, as very long, steep and loose gully to get to the canyon bottom (kind of stressful). The canyon bottom is rocky and muddy, so moving down canyon was slow. The pothole section was fun with mostly full potholes. The water was a bit stinky, but not terrible. We did not have wetsuits on 100 degree day and became slightly chilled near the end.

Very nice canyon with more rappels than advertised (~6, although some could be downclimbed). Nearly full of water and not as stinky as 3 Fingers. Went with Tammie Berrie, Tom Neff, Ron Bauer and Leslie & John Schipper

Went with Kaden, Wan and Wilmer. Hot day, almost completely dry. The first mandatory rappel can be broken into 2 short rappels with a deadman halfway down. Took about 8 hours due to slots of breaks due to heat. Nice canyon!

I'd give it 3.5 stars. Went with Kaden. Not for claustaphobes or folks not comfortable stemming for long periods of time. It was a lot of work, but a challenging canyon. 3-star for the beauty, 4-star for the physical challenge.

With Kaden. Went down the South Fork and climbed up the North Fork on fixed lines. Round trip was 2.5 hours. Upclimb may be possible without fixed lines with advance partner assist, but the lines made it much easier!

Did with Kaden. Nice canyon that has fun downclimbing, but not too narrow compared to it's neighbors. The 2-stage rappel was nice off of a deadman. Would do again.

Went with Kaden after Monkey Business. We did it in a little over 2 hours. A bit strenuous but fun. Dabbled in the "R" section, but we were tired, so backed out. At least as nice as Horse Play. Good end of day bonus near good camping.

Hiked down this and up Chute. A couple of easy downclimbs and decent scenery,

Started "behind the reef" at Crack Canyon. This was a nice loop hike. A couple easy downclimbs found in Crack, but Chute was just a pleasant walkthrough. Took 4:15 for the 13.5 mile complete loop.

First time into these canyons. Went up Ding and down Dang. A little bit of scrambling and downclimbing, especially in Dang Canyon. Some water in Dang had to be stemmed over, but I stayed dry. A small rope or webbing may be useful for those with less experience.

Hike in ~1.5 hours till it gets good, a bit of a slog. Very fun canyon, we did without harnesses. Fixed webbing to assist in up climb, but may not have been necessary. Deadman anchors were the anchor of choice and were in good condition. Made it to Muddy Creek then ascended back up - fixed webbing helped, but may be done without. Total ~6.5 hours there and back. Muddy Creek was flowing ~25 cfs - you would get plenty wet going downstream, but looked beautiful!

Did with Kaden, about ~4 hours for the loop, most on the Faultline return route. Big exposure rappel with a slightly awkward start with climb over the lip. Arch anchor will always be solid. May consider rapping in single stage if anchor extended over the lip. Boulder below is solid, but takes at least 20' of webbing to reach edge, plus what is needed around boulder.

Went with Kaden. DCed the first rappel without a problem. Rap to Chute Canyon was easy off of the bolts at ~85'. Tried to go downstream with fixing lines back up. First big chokestone formed overhang that was difficult to ascend, Abandoned downstream idea and completed the short loop - very nice! Dry except for a few small ponds, one of which we had to wade upper calf deep.

Great time, fun downclimbing. Last rappel can be done in stages with a shorter rope (~30m) or downclimbed with caution

All dry. First rappel is done with 3 stages on 60m rope, Possible with shorter rope and anchors at each stage. If single rope, leave at top and get later due to long pull. No more mandatory rappels below. Good times!

First trip down with Ron.

Hog 1 and exit gulch hike
