Took us about four hours. did the South Fork with Ian. We brought two 200 foot ropes. I got lost at first going off trail. The hike from the Canon floor to the top was pretty tough. Although it was only 80°, it was very hot and I think I overheated. For the South Fork we use a 200 foot rope with the fiddlestick to get down to the second wrap. That first wrap is pretty easy and potentially could be downclimbed, but it would be pretty tricky right at the end so we just played it safe with a rope and I think that’s the best route. I believe it was about 120 feet or so then there was another 100 foot repel that we did with the rope doubled. Then next was a free hanging rappel of about 60 feet. then for the last one, we did not go down the crack, but rather we walked around on the left to a big boulder and a repel over there. From there, we walked down the wash back to the road. It would’ve been nice to have some razor scooters stashed there because it’s a bit of a hike back to your vehicle on the road. The Canyon was pretty cool, but probably not worth the effort. It was a long hot hike.
W Laura. Hike to the tunnel is cool. Our second time up this hike to the Mesa. Finding the canyon was tricky be we figured it out. After doing forget me not and Big Horn I’m probably over it on this section haha
Brandon and I did this on a beautiful fall day. I actually really enjoyed this route, probably because i wasn't expecting a whole lot given the ratings. The tunnel was incredible, to say the least. Never seen anything like it on the CP.
our second canyon!
Kate and I did this while Matt trail ran; took us 3h15m not counting the road walk (we waited at the exit for him to pick us up). Amazing hike in, the tunnel exceeded expectations. A bit tricky to find the canyon from the Mesa. Good problem solving and great views along the whole canyon! So much fun
Excellent beautiful straightforward. 3.5 hours car to car, we shuttled it. W/ Max
With Mac and Erin, lots of fun but a hike in the heat to get to the top of the butte.
First canyoneering route. Did this with Alan using 60m and 70m dynamic ropes tied together for the big rappel.
Nice big canyon, fun rappels and no people.
Long steep hike in, very hot. 3 repels for the last mile. 2 cars might have been better, but we hitch hiked back to the trailhead
Had the permit, lugging the rope... made it to the tunnel when an almighty electrical storm hit. Decided safety was in our best interests and hightailed it back to the car. So no Bighorn/Dragonfly for us.
longish hike, but good
