Long day, but fun. Long drive. The exit requires some route finding, taco led us a bit astray so fact check. We got our rope seriously stuck in a crack on the last rap when Bat rapped first so she had to ascend and then after like 5 min of fanegaling and dangling over the edge on his cow tail taco finaly fot it loose and saved our asses. Overall a very fun day and a very cool final rap. The exit was very steep slickrock.
#conditions Ran the North Fork only as a group of 4 on 5/2/2026 - beautiful! The pool of ice cold bug water is still there at the penultimate rappel (before the two-stager); it's unavoidable and was waist deep at least for everyone. Right after there are two bolts. We skipped these and downclimbed the 2m drop to a ledge above the first of the two-stage rap. Bolts looked good and webbing was acceptable. Second stage 45m anchor hanger is wearing a circle around the bolt but the bolt still appears solid; webbing is acceptable. The final anchor is pretty far back from the ledge; we were confused why the second stage (45m) is called a ledge when the first stage (15m) is an actual tiny little ledge that no one wanted to clip in to without safety from the extra upper bolts. Poison ivy at the bottom of the 45m free hanging rap is growing rampant - we could avoid it on landing but barely. The rope fell all over it, so ours, too, is in bag isolation! The hike out was long so take lots of extra water. You can intermittently find a trail if you follow the GPX, but it is lots of gaining and losing elevation that seems unnecessary (but we didn't stay in the east wash to find out if it was passable).
Did with Bence and Doug. Was one of the most festering shit canyons, and the final rappel landed between two poison ivy bushes that my rope fell into.
W/ Cody and Doug. Concentrated cow shit water pool at the second to last rep. Fuck Ryan’s exit route.

North Fork- Great Canyon! Nothing super narrow and very pretty. Some partner assists and used 20m and 60m ropes plus 60m pull cord. Tried to shuttle the hike out, ended up having to hike back around but might be some way up.. couldn’t find it this time though. Long hike back and GPS route not the best. With Lex, Mikey, Brenden, Caleb, and Josh.- 5hr 19min
north fork, did the last repel in two sections, rough/confusing hike out(6pl 4:31)
South Fork- Descended to the top of the first rappel, not that cool or fun- lots of sand hiking. Doesn't look like anyone comes here. Would come back with ascenders to descend and ascend whole canyon. With Lex and Caleb- 2hr 10min
south fork, could not find the repel in
It had just flooded. 3 swimmers, everything wet. All anchors and webbing caked in mud and difficult to evaluate. We replaced 2 anchors and backed up the rest. Many were buried under mud and water. Fun canyon! Difficult escape walking through canyons instead of untop. Undefined trail. Lots of partner assist short drops (not rappel).
Had thigh deep water in some of the potholes and rappel pools. The last rappel weirded me out. There is a 50' rappel and then a 100' rappel. I would say this is only doable as a two stager. The 50' rappel was bolted, however the most solid bolt was missing a hanger and the other bolt was pretty loose. There wasn't anything to build a backup anchor with and the pothole you are in was so shallow it wouldn't have made much difference anyways. We backed up the first down with a meat anchor but then I got to rappel on the single loose bolt. The 100' rappel was fine....good deadman with backups. If you are worried about the exit climb out, don't be......somebody literally built stone switchbacks where the man made steps were! It rained and flooded the Roost later that night so the anchors and conditions we experienced have probably changed for the worse. Overall the canyon was really pretty. There was some climbing which pretty easily defeated. It is pretty long with the exit hike which is kind of tricky to find. There were really neat iron or calcite mineralizations in the canyon. Really cool deep slot sections with interesting sinuous shaped ceilings. Took 6.5 hrs car to car.

7c2c,group of 5, last rap is single rope and complex, use high friction device, end in a freerap, long hike back
think i did it sometime in 2019
Canyon was great, but we rushed through it. Horrible exit due to heat and crappy map reading by rest of the group. i got left behind and helped them route find once they got cliffed out. Only 2 of us had maps and we took long way out.

Great, all around canyon with some great raps. Large group over Easter Weekend. Hike out was an adventure with interesting scrambling.
My favortie slot in the area, again route finding out was a little tough but worth the trip.
super long home back to car
