Catstair Canyon - Paria

Unavoidable water at bottom of the the first rappel. Our group was not necessarily prepared for a swim, thankfully the "fetid pool" was only 3-4 feet deep with soft mud at the bottom. The pool at the bottom of the second stage of the rappel was avoidable with some careful maneuvering while on rope. this was our first canyon that we did on our own (not guided), ropes, knots, and all, and despite the nasty water it was a great time! The rock art at the end was a special treat. A great canyon with lots going on, but be prepared for water. All anchors were in good condition.

First time swimming in a canyon pool, great beautiful canyon. TERRIBLE hike to get to the top though. had to take our time. fun raps with a variety of starts.

Comment: We picked Catstair to be our first self-led technical canyon and boy was it a good choice. On 11/0...
