On Saturday, April 12, we hiked to Arch Nemesis Canyon (3B), surrounded by the spectacular beauty of Capitol Reef National Park and views of the impressive Golden Throne. The canyon had terrific scenery and rock formations, and large potholes of water, which we deftly avoided. The approach hike was 50 minutes, about one mile, and 520 feet vertical ascent. We bypassed R1 and R2 by hiking around them DCL. R3 (about 40 feet) from a tree DLC brought us down between two large potholes. R4 (about 80 feet) was made possible by a chockstone anchor behind us extended with 40 feet of red and black webbing. With a group of three, we completed Arch Nemesis in 2.5 hours car to car. We stayed dry and avoided all water. It was a wonderful spring morning in the canyon!

Started our trip at 12:45 pm and got off the last rappel at 4:15 pm. Only 3 in our group, and we were all very experience so could move fast. About an hour hike from the bottom to the drop in for the canyon.

Completed with Nathan. Ended up creating our own anchor to avoid using a large deadman anchor rappel.

During four days of canyoneering in the park, this is the only canyon where we saw other groups. On the first drop, which some people downclimb, we rapped off a tree using a fiddlestick - it worked great. Anchors and webbing for the other rappels were in good shape. The approach was a bit tricky, working our way up the ledges and then towards the canyon, Ryan's map (on his phone app) was a big help,

Took a wrong turn right at the beginning, so spent 2-3 hours on the wrong trail. Once we found the right one it was fairly simple. Fun canyon.

Super fun! The long anchors are not a problem. We went through multiple pools.

Great canyon for Capitol Reef. A couple fun rappels, a fairly easy approach, and some beauty. The water was waste deep at most for our trip with a total of 4 pools. 2 members of our team did wear a wet suit, I did not and was happy not to have it on It (the high that day was 65).
