Canyon todo list
5 peoples 7 hours with short lunch break. Amazing workout and beautiful narrows in west fork. Had to stem over a beautiful rattlesnake in east fork.
Amazing canyon. Will do again.
Robert, Susan, me, 5/17/25. Down and up climb of both forks.
easy approach. Don't try to skip from the first canyons wash to the second canyon. it's too steep for a drop in. ended up skipping the first possible rappel by climbing under the chalkstones. 45 min of narrows for the down canyon. managed to avoid getting wet on the rappel. Great technical climbs and stemming on the up canyon.
June during a heatwave is too hot (103). Done with Chris and Mel. They did great and no rope is needed. Wish there was a pool but sadly nothing. Nissan Al gieb
The GPS coordinates were spot on. It was a good canyon. It was in between stemming moves and waddling through sideways and at an angle. It wasn’t my favorite style of canyon.
Down main fork up west fork
8hrsC2C. Pi, Dwight, Brian. We strayed substantially to the north of Ryan’s approach line. No biggie. Trails are more defined than last time. Crossed west fork and went down Canyon 50’ to Ryan’s ramp out. Entered east fork on the left at the top. Several down climb partner assist spots and finally a mandatory 20 foot rappel into a knee deep pool. A 50 foot rope was fine for the raps BUT- The down canyon walk around bypassing the dryfall in West Fork involved some low angle, friction, climbing, and non-climbers would really like a solid 100’ hand line up it. The up, climbs in West Fork were challenging in at least two spots. Made an Etrier from the hand line at one point. Crux was likely an up-squeeze section near the end of the difficulties. Do not take dogs in this Canyon. This canyon was a very long and physical day. Kim and Bret would like it, but Roxy would not. Coming up the west fork was really beautiful and the highlight of the day.
Second time. Forgot that it has tights slots in both sides with up limbs over chock stones. Avoid 4th class exit at fork by going down canyon further than you think - it’s touchy otherwise
Fucking hell
Lots of standing water near the bottom of east fork, first rap can be downclimbed or there's a fairly large hole to climb under/through currently. Max rope length needed would be 30m for a doublestrand rappel if you want to use the existing webbing. There is another rap, about 15m into a waist deep pool - this was the rappel we were glad to have a rope for. Lots of very slippery mud made this not beginner friendly.
Yikes. Very hot. Only made it out c/o elete electrolyte drops. Did east fork, hiked along rim and wash back to trail instead of east fork
Alex
With Judy and Taco. Fun, straight forward. Easy rap i to pool

Made a comment on this not sure if this will do so again new to this website.
Ran this canyon with Jim for his super soft birthday. Emily, Adam F, Jim, and Nicole R. Jen stayed at the trailer with Wyatt
Lily, Kuba, Atin, Evicka - simply awesome
Solo Beautiful area
All water avoidable.
Fun canyon with enough obstacles to keep it interesting...didn't live up to the hype as being "one of the best non-tech" canyons though. Do yourself a favor and wait to do this canyon from late Fall through early Spring - doing it in May was already too mind-numbingly hot (also lots of wash walking if you enter from the south). There was no shallow pool
One tricky section for the 2wd on the Old Sheffield Road on the way in. Fun day, the ascending slot was great. Had to use rope once for pack hauling for the hardest upclimb.
With the 15th ward YM. Hiked over to cosmic ashtray too
Atin, Martin, Evicka - great outing!
3/10 - Ellabeau 3/10 - Hidden Splendor 3/11 - Drill Hole
11/06/2016-Amazingly Fun. Took 3 kids 17, 14 and 13 with me. Everyone had a blast.
Did from bottom up and headed out to the cosmic astray then back down an old road. (last year 2015) Our groups favorite hike period. Used webbing as a hand line many times to help some members of our group get over or down obstacles. Long hike once out. Used up close to 4 liters of water per person.
Great up and down. single short rap with tree tie off anchor in place. 7 hours car to car.
Pretty hard to nail the approach! Go down canyon 50 ft. at the crossing of the top of the West (first) fork to continue the approach up an easy ramp. If we had not done it the day before it would have added an hour to our time. Down east, up west = total 5.5 hours car to car. all in all, a very physical day. East fork was good, West Fork was spectacular. West Fork has some fairly challenging up climbs.
did approach to far (E) fork for a hike. At first (W) fork, go RDC about 100 feet and follow easy 2nd class ramp up and left to far rim. Verizon LTE @TH.
